I am going to be parked up and out of the way over the January break and thought I might do a little maintenance.
My first issue is those black marks that get on the rubber or vinyl strips that go between the joins of the caravan sides and front. How do you remove the marks and clean these strips? I have tried car wash but without much success. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
My second problem is with those butterfly shaped window locks that you undo before winding out the window. I have broken two of these. Are these easy to replace and why do use them. They are very fragile and seem to break the minute any pressure is placed on them. Are these stocked in caravan places or do I need a specific part number and try to order online.
Thanks for your help, looking forward to your replies.
Not 100 sure on your van . We tried all sorts on our old stationary van . Adventually I tried Jiff . Partly abrasive . Worked like a cutting agent , rag with warm bucket of water . Then sealed joins where I thought any possibility of water leaks . Then applied a car wax . Looked great till we sold it .
The window locks you describe are simply a crap design. They pivot on a pop rivet which is in very thin aluminium and eventually, the hole will be enlarged and the whole thing will become unusable. The winders also fail and are not repairable. The fly screens are also an un repairable proprietary item. www.caravansplus.com.au/external/windows/odyssey/parts/
The prices charged for this crap is unbelievable and I eventually ripped all of this type of window out and replaced them with windows locally made in Adelaide. They are sliding windows, not hoppers, unfortunately, but they are far superior quality and cheaper.
Cheers,
Peter
solution of bleach works well for any white painted area. Try various strengths until you get it right. I used about 25 to 1 and a non scratch scourer and came up a treat.
D Maxer they are available at most Grocery stores If you use in conjunction with turtle wax car polish you will get a better finish. Work using circular motions for better results.
