Seeking advice on iPad connection in outback Australia. Can you tether to a satellite phone for instance

Some you can, yes. But be prepared for higher costs. Check out the options from various providers - start with google.
Cheers,
Peter

I am not sure if it's feasible but a friend was going to try taking her SkyMuster Internet box with them on their travels and see if she could use the box with her VAST system much like taking your Foxtel around Australia.

Obviously you would have to have had the Skymuster set up installed at your home address in the country with no internet access.

I'll be very interested if it did work for her.

If you go back you will find where someone described the Skymuster satellite transmissions. Their claim was there were many beams to Australia. You will be linked into the particular beam that supplies the signal to your small area. You don't have to go far to get out of your beams signal area. You will not get a connection outside that area.

SkyMuster is a different satellite to the Vast one. It transmits many beams to cover Oz. When you shift your receiver away from the beam it is set to operate on it looses contact. tel her not to bother.
