Poptop roof

Hi all

We have a 2006 Jayco Destiny Pop Top which unfortunately was water damaged in the Townsville floods earlier this year. Our insurance company in their wisdom have reached the decision not to cover the damage due to seal wear even though roof was resealed last August and the van was covered with a tarp during most of the 3 weeks deluge ( wind and rain blew it off during the deluge). Insurers state that it needs a new roof..does anyone know if it it possible to have only some of the panels replaced as it seems to us that only 2 of the 4 panels are damaged. We cannot afford $10,500 for a new roof.

Many thanks

Just because an insurer has indicated that they will not meet a claim does not mean that is the end of your matter. Insurance companies like any other business are also subject to further action if not acting fairly or correctly in relation to your insurance contract.

You will find there is an insurance ombudsman and a right of review in relation to your claim. I would also suggest that you contact your nearest Community Legal Centre, there is one in Townsville, who can have a look at your insurance contract and advise accordingly. There is no charge for this.

It is quite surprising the rethink of attitude some of the insurers have when they realise you are seeking legal assistance.

Hi Garrick & Karen

I can not answer your question about roof top panels

But it would be good if you could name the insurance company
It may help some of us, in the future, by avoiding them

I have only made one claim, for a damaged awning on my motorhome
I am with CIL and have had no drama, but will advise if they decide to increase their premiums, in a few months time

As DMaxer has said, it will cost nothing to let them know, that you are unhappy with their decision

I presume it is only the pop top roof that is damaged?
When you do replace it, do it with a single sheet of fibreglass and it will be hail proof.
Not a big job, I suggest.
Cheers,
Peter
