Water Loss when using tank pumps

First time posting so I hope my post is acceptable!

I have a Jayco silverline, when ever I pump water from our tanks water also spurts out of the hose inlet.  Any ideas. Also has anyone changed their standard 15 inch tyres to 16 inch and if so any problems?

There is a large brass non return valve ours is near the water pump under the dinette that becomes sticky and causes this . Either dismantle and clean or replace with one from Bunnings

To change tyre size you will be putting the van out of it's design specifications - you would need to have suspension and brakes recertified by an Engineer - more trouble than it is worth - If you do it without notifying Relevant road authority you will void insurance and be liable to have van defected and travel no further other than on the back of a table top truck.

G'day GNT, Welcome to the forum. If your water inlet is a white nylon affair, then it contains a spring loaded flap with an O ring. This is a simple device that simply fails. The dealers can sell you another, and they're easy to fit, but a better alternative would be an inline device, a dedicated non-return valve designed to be cut into the plastic tubing. In the meantime, get a hose connector and plug it with silicone. That will effectively stop water loss until you can replace the valve.

Gnt, there are two non return valves fitted to the Silverline, I own a Silverline and have worked on both. The first non return valve is in the filling fitting. It doesn't do much, I suspect its part of a regulation that non return valves must be fitted to water outlets to stop water contamination to the water supply. I fixed that one with a big drill, the problem is a seal that comes off, and can't be refitted, i.e. you need to buy a new part. That's not the important one, so we move on.
Under your van is a brass "Pressure Limiting Valve" which also has built into it a non return valve. You can remove this PLV and dismantle it, and clear the problem, or go down town and buy a new one, fit the new one then fix the other and keep as a spare.

There are two things that happen to this valve, 1/ the flow reduces, you notice this then in the shower, or you get water leaking out the filling point, this is caused by debris under the non return valve, which is located right inside the PLV.

Let me know what you intend to do, then I will describe the job and get the spanner sizes for you, if you want. Or $89 gets you a new valve.

 Hi Gnt smile

Regarding the wheels and tire change. People with 4WDs and other cars do a change regularly to a different size and do not have it re-engineered nor fail their rego checks or have them deemed 'out of spec' if they make a sensible change that suits their use. Just look at the load ratings and ensure the new wheels and tires exceed the original specs.

My thoughts on the wheels, we have a Silverline outback, and as I understand it, the outback and the std model have the same axle/wishbone assemblies, but the outback has different brakes, springs and shocks. So the first thing to know is whether you have the std model or the outback.

The tire sizes on ours are 245/70 R16 111T, so with the correct rims and about 50mm more clearance, they should fit straight on. But why do you want to do that? even the Silverline Outback is not really designed for rough roads, we have been over them, but its something I would not push the boundries on.
