Repeat shorting.

Afternoon every one.

My brother is having a problem with a repeat shorting.

He has been to a few Auto Elect, to no result.

Owens an older model motor home, towing a late model Suzukie, every time he hooks up the blinkers blow on the car.

He has been told that there is a unit that can be bought to plug in between the two, to help the  computer in the car,

Any one got any ideas.

Regards Bowser.

Hi
Consult a dealer if there are requirements for trailer connection . YES /NO Either have them sought it or go to an auto sparky .

Once the above is sorted auto electricians can sought out your trailer if there is a fault with it .

Does the Suzie blow a fuse when in use? If not then I'd suggest you open up the plug used to connect the Suzie to the motorhome. I've seen some 7 pin round plugs shorting out on the screws which hold the wires in place to the metal body of the plug, or could be a stray wire in there?

G'day Bowser,
There used to be a master/slave unit that was used to connect trailers - basically a set of relays but I haven't seen any of recent years. I made one when I had voltage troubles with our camper.

Assuming both the motorhome & the car's blinkers operate ok separate of one another, I agree with Treecrest - there may be a stranded wire that has one strand not clamped by the screw but touching somewhere that it shouldn't. Check both ends of the cable ie the plug that goes into the MH and where it plugs into the car.
