Barry

We encountered Barry on the road just North of Dubbo. Barry and his partner who will remain nameless. Were pulling out of a rest area in their vehicle towing a Jayco pop top. Barry stopped, looked left, clearly saw our cruiser and Bushtracker only 100 metres up the road travelling at 100ks per hour and followed by 2 B doubles. What do you think Barry did? Yes he pulled out in front of us almost causing a disaster. He then cruised along at 80ks causing the B doubles to close up dangerously on our tail. We pulled to the edge and allowed the trucks past. They then tailgated Barry for 1/2 an hour pouring invectives and expletives over the 2 way on the channel Barry had on the back of his van next to his name. But Barry didnt answer. Barry is one of the Entitled. Entitled to pull out in front of other vehicles. Entitled to hold up other traffic even when he could easily move over and let them pass with safety. Yes Barry is entitled to travel at 80is, but Barry should also exercise his entitlement along with consideration for other drivers.

Unfortunately from a truckies cab, we are all probably tarred by the same brush

I have seen similar, and have even seen cars towing caravans, without mirror extensions
Their motto is probably. "Out of sight out of mind"

I feel your pain - you see it almost daily. Its the lack of consideration for for other road users thats shows a level of arrogance that is unbelievable. I reckon Ive only had one one response from a caravanner over the two way. Only a few weeks ago we had Bob and Myrtle crawling along at 75. No answer on the uhf to multiple calls to them to help pass and a huge tail back growing behind them.

Sounds like a pass me a clean pair of undies moment.
One of these days Bazza might end up wearing a road train if he keeps that sort of behaviour up.

Sorry you looked at it that way Dick. It wasn't meant to offend. That is not me. The word 'head' would have been next to Dick but didn't want to offend anyone. Can't win.

Sorry again.

I have a heavy rigid drivers liscence and have the utmost respect for trucks but the problem I have with them now I am and old man that toes a van is that on big expressways you dont want to get stuck behind one going up hills, they just crawl,so you eventually have an opportunity to overtake them you have too ,you select highway speed to me thats the speed limit, big wide road dead straight ,most of the time safe enough, but they see a van they have to get around you its in there DNA biggrin thats good but the next hill your crawling behind them and so the game goes on,to escape that cenario is to drive like mad to open up a gap and thats not on so you play this silly game...

Hi Ron....as someone who drove B-Doubles interstate for years,I can assure you truckies do not have DNA that causes them to want to get around caravans. On the  contrary, from my experience, caravanners seem to want to get around trucks as soon as they can.No problem with that, but invariably these caravanners then will slow down as soon as they have passed us,which is why we will again overtake. We have no wish to play games, but we often run to very tight schedules which means we need to maintain a particular average speed. Many (most?) trucks are speed limited to 100km/hr,so 10 minutes stuck behind someone dawdling along at 85km/hr can throw the schedule into total disarray. As for the comment .....they just crawl....this is rubbish. My last truck was a 620hp Kenworth 950,and lost little speed on most hills,as is the case with most trucks these days.Truckies dont care what speed you choose to travel at,as long as you maintain that speed.Particularly frustrating are those who travel at 85km/hr until they reach an overtaking lane.....then it is Pedal to the metal and they are gone....until the overtaking lane ends, and then they drop back to 85km/hr.And you wonder why truckies want to overtake! Cheers

I can see where yobarr is coming from as i see the problem is when the caravan hits the overtaking lane they have plenty of room and feel confident, getting back onto single  lane they loose their confidence and dead scared they are going to roll their trailer with the decked out garden shed nailed on it.

As to the op i have had the same happen many times even in metro streets in a 60 zone, some clown pulls out in front of my ute not making me brake hard but to be safe lift the foot a bit. Then you look in the rear view mirror and not a sole behind you as far as you can see. So take a breath and say to your self DH.

Good luck to all.

Dont get me wrong this only happens on expressways in certain cenarioes,I would rather have a truck in front of me as long as they stay there and they usually do.....

Hi All, Yep I much prefer to stay a distance behind the trucks... IMHO they are the knights of the highway and most often a polite professional bunch. I tend to stay in the left as much as possible and use the radio... nice chatting early in the morning to see whats ahead. Bye Ya All.
