Winnebago Eyre rear suspension.

Good afternoon members.

Has anyone had any experience or recommendations regarding fitting air bag or the later solid type bag and coil unit to the rear springs.

Best regards,

Neil.

Presumably you want to do this because it is overloaded?
What vehicle is it?
Be aware that the back end of Fiat motorhomes is NOT made by Fiat and many have very light chassis to the point that they can not even have a decent tow bar attached, so messing with the suspension could easily end up in a bent chassis.
Get rid of the excess weight is the best solution.
Cheers,
Peter

Thank you Peter,

The vehicle is a Winnebago Eyre, weighs 4746kg on the weighbridge and therefore well within the specs.

Trouble is that it grounds over spoon drains, servo drive ways etc.

The front end has been modified but would like another 50mm clearance at the rear.

I do not know if you saw my post regarding  the clutch servo reservoir, the pics were not very good but now so much easier to monitor the fluid level which does not appear to be leaking.

Best regards,

Neil Creswell

I am not sure what specs you refer to?
According to Avida, the GVM of the Winnebago Eyre is 4495kg, so at 4746kg you are definitely significantly overloaded and illegal.

Hi Neil
I remember the post about the automatic clutch reservoir, if I remember correctly, you have a Fiat Ducato on the 250 chassis

I have the older (manual gearbox) model, as in my Avatar, on the 244 chassis

It has an Aggr of 3850 Kg, and am I just under

My problem was that I had too much sway, while driving on the highways
My rear leaf springs had nearly flattened out, and very close to the bump stops

I had the rear springs reset, and an extra leaf fitted, this lifted the chassis about 40 mm at the bump stop, at the axle

I had thought of airbags, but decided that my chassis would have to be strengthened between the spring hangers

Cost of airbags at that time was close to $900 if DIY
Cost of spring work, done by others was between $900 and $1,000

The rear spring work seems to have done the trick for my vehicle

I have been told by others (different vehicles), that just resetting the leaf springs is not good enough, you have to have the extra spring

Hope that this info is useful to you

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your concern.

I should have read my post as theres a typo on the weight , should be 4546, this with 125litres of water, some grey in the 125l tank, 125litres of fuel, 2x4.5 kg gas and 2 people (overweight)

The gvm of this truck is over 5000kg.There is no towbar fitted.

Best,

Neil.

Not according to the builder, but the placard will show what the GVM is (not to be confused with GCM), and you will need a light rigid licence to drive it, if it is.

Best to know the facts accurately.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi Peter....you are,of course, absolutely correct.GCM is 4495kg,probably to avoid the need for a light rigid licence, and GCM is 5995kg,with a massive (sic) 1500kg towing capacity.Back to the drawing board? Cheers
