Reversing Cameras and choosing the right one.

I'm thinking about fitting a reversing camera on my Prado to assist hitching up my caravan, but which one do I choose ??? like to hear what others have chosen and their experience of performance and ease of fitting unit to vehicle.  does the cost of the camera reflect the performance or are they much alike.????

Welcome to the forum.

Strange that there haven't been any replies so far.  Of course this is a common question & previous discussion can be found by using the 'search' function.

From time to time I ponder the same question as I find the reversing camera on my town car an excellent accessory.  Be good on the long suffering Patrol.

edit ..  I just tried a search on 'reversing camera' and got a page full of previous threads.  Give it a try by using the "Search' function in the blue bar at the top of the page.

We have two on our motorhome . One up high to see what is behind for passing or changing lanes . The other is lower with wide angle for reversing and closer vision .

If you hitch up the van on your own, a camera would be a god send, I haven't fitted one there yet, as I have a hand to guide me onto the hitch. How ever don't get too carried away with other cameras, as nothing beats rear view mirrors. It is only the one camera you are thinking of?

I have an ebay cheapy on the back of the pajero. It's the wired kind.

Mounts on the number plate. does obscure the top of the letters and other have said I will get pulled for it but hasn't happened yet. it's very minor

Have had it many years and keep threatening to swap it out with a more expensive one but its still working for now.
Not great but not bad either. Rubbish in cold wet weather though.
Mine is all but directly over my hitch, so I can tilt it downward and see the actual towball of my vehicle and the hitch of the van.

I'm considering a wireless system for the rear of the van. One of the guys at work, again an ebay jobby and just checked with him and he's happy with it.
Has it running into a standard head unit on his colarado as an Aux input.

That's all the knowledge I have in the area I'm afraid .

cheers Brett

I don't know what your expertise is with wiring or mechanical fitting, but if the camera is just for hitching up, a wireless one maybe the go, less wiring to do. Have a look at "Safety Dave" site, they have a good selection.
