Snowy River SR-19 caravans

Hello there. Any recent purchaser of a Snowy River SR - 10 caravan have any comments about quality and build. Looking to purchase but nervous about the Chinese flat pack origins.

Thanks

G'day Jack,

I won't welcome you as I have already done that in a similar thread in the 'General' section.

That said, many moons back now when I was researching for my aluminium tent I found a mob in Adelaide so flew from Melbourne across and through the big fluffy clouds in the sky to check out the 'Goldstar' co. Sadly not even one hour later I was heading back to the airport.

I found they arrived from China in a flat pack and put together here with cheap fittings. The display model I checked out had the ensuite door hanging off and cupboard doors too. Cheep hinges etc used throughout.

If that was from just sitting in the yard I hate to think what would happen on the highways and by ways.

I was dealing with the GM at the time by phone and he didn't bother even being on time for my appointment. He rang later saying he was having a coffee with a friend and time got away from him and to come back and he will do a deal. I said no thanks as I didn't like the quality. I was also disappointed he didn't bother turning up on time or ring when he remembered.

He pestered me for weeks until I just stopped answering his calls.

I know it wasn't a 'Snowy River' but a flat pack Chinese mob so could be different.

Just make sure the ellen key is in the pack biggrin Sorry, couldn't help myself biggrin

One of the forum members has a Snowy River and he is very happy with it.

He did a report on the van : https://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t65342071/a-review-of-the-snowy-river-sr-19-caravan/

Thanks for the feedback Chief. The flatpack thing worries me too when it comes to how it will react to off road conditions. The web reviews are OK but you never get to know how old the caravans are when the review is written.

The Goldstar is actually 90% built in China by an Australian company in partnership. It not a flat pack.

In any case, quality is nothing to do with the country it is made in, but more about the materials and techniques used and the standards that the builder is required to produce.

Some of the best quality to be had from anywhere in the world comes from China, along with a lot of junk too and China is not the only country that produces junk, there is plenty produced in this country too.

Cheers,

Peter
