Hi
Trailers are not "really" recommended, not that it can't be done, its more about the damage it does to the track itself.
The same is said for the Simpson, but ofcourse a lot of people do drag their trailers across that, and do a lot of damage in doing so, without any consideration of people following after.
We have done both but without trailers.
I think if you decide to do it, make sure you are travelling with someone else who can drag you over if you get stuck, and there is a HIGH possability that you WILL get stuck.

Its a great little trip

cheers
Ian

Please don't take your trailer on Googs (or the Simpson) out of consideration for the track and the damage it causes.
We were there last month doing some work as Friends of the Great Victoria Desert for the Parks people.

Don't know if this video will work here. The scallops in the track are caused by wheel spin due to excessive tyre pressure and towing of trailers.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uR-4umBMafA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If your tyre pressures are appropriate there is absolutely no reason why you should get stuck without a trailer. If it looks like you might, let more air out and reduce speed.

Cheers,

Peter

The Simpson is no place for trailers unless you want to abandon it out there as one of our crew did back in 1980 when we crossed on the French line.
I know that was a long time ago but I dont think the dunes have got any smaller!

No only are they not smaller, they are much rougher thanks to vehicles with more power and tyre pressures too high.

Cheers,

Peter

Totally agree where trailers are concerned. The last time I did the Simo had one bloke "solo" towing
a dual bike trailer east west on French, stuck on one dune with a broken axel front and rear.
Lucky he had a sat phone, parts coming from Toyota Adelaide cost $$$$$$$$$$.
Track damage done by him trying to crest dune horrendous.

Phill, NO - the sand dunes on this track are not straight up & over so there is no way that I'd take a camper trailer. Our first trip was in the mid 80s when we lived there & had a Subaru Leone 4wd - went with other families from Ceduna to Mt Finke. We went back with friends to the Far West 4WD Club's 21st reunion at Blog's Lake. Consider leaving your trailer at one of the caravan parks but take care to ensure it is secure. Will send you a pm.

Deal All.... Never before have I been able to make such a quick and resounding decision... My mind is made up.. NO way will a trailer of mine come with me on the Googs track.. a tent and a cold beer is all that I will need.

Thanks for the replies.. made my decision very easy. Phillip

Just did Googs about 4 weeks ago , I towed a Tvan behind a Y62 Patrol , a mate had a Tvan behind his HiLux , we traveled North to Sth
It was a easy drive we didn't have any problems at all , drove over all dunes without any difficulty at all .

But going Sth to Nth would be a different story the Northern side of the Dunes was smooth the Sth very chopped up .

I was talking a couple of blokes at Kingoonya that were from Ceduna they had just come through Googs , they had done Googs many times and said we were going the right way , they had never seen the Dunes so chopped up .

Here ya go Phill you might find this of interest . https://magazine.unsealed4x4.com.au/en_US/14852/210702/googs_track.html

Like I said this bloke mentions how badly scalloped out the Dunes were on the Southern side .

You would have a much easier and more comfortable trip traveling Nth to Sth .

Towing the trailer should be no problem but I guess that depends your vehicle and the weight of the trailer

Getting people to travel N-S when towing will simply mean that the N sides get destroyed too.
Random screen shots from a video clip showing the scalloping. Certainly not the worst, but you can see how the vehicle will rock from side to side and many smaller 4WDs will be dragging their diffs increasing the wheel spin tendency even more..

Not easily seen in this pic, but the holes in one side of the track coincide with the lump on the other side.

Please don't take your trailer.

Cheers,
Peter
