My brother stayed at Anzac Park, Kilcoy, QLD on Sunday night. Went to the toilets at 5.30am, all was good. Went back just before 7am before he was hitting the road and found that everything was locked. There was a council guy there and Bob queried him and he said the showers and toilets are closed until further notice due to the roadworks in progress. Apparently people are parking on the highway side to use the toilets etc and making it dangerous he said and council has decided to close it all down. He said it could be weeks or months and it's not his problem. Why can't they just fence the road side of things off so that travellers can still have a shower etc? Bob said that there were quite a few campervans there and also caravans. So imagine their surprise when they woke up to go and relieve themselves! A bit of warning or signage would have been nice. I use the showers regularly on my way back from being amongst the mangroves for a few days, but I park in the rest area. I also buy a pie and drink from the bakery. Good meaty pies worth the money. Not the jellied crap. I guess I'll just keep going to my destination until things are sorted. That's approximately $10 of my money Kilcoy town won't be seeing for a while. How many others are going to give it a miss. I'll see if I can contact Kilcoy Council to find out what is going on. The worker reckons it's not his problem.
Jonathon the only message that would be sent by such a despicable act would be travellers are filthy, disrespecting and couldn't give a hoot about the town it's people or other travellers.
This is the very thing that gets free camps closed down, two were closed within 10 km of where I live and the filthy behaviour of the self righteous few, was a constant eye sore and stinking minefield even though toilets and bins were provided.

In my miniscule council with 27 toilets, our precinct committee fought tooth & nail for years to get another female toilet at a beach, & the council still locks them all at night.
They may want to update https://toiletmap.gov.au/Mobile to show this one is locked 24 hours so people don't get caught short.

We were there not long ago. Council always cleaned them. There are 2 rest camps in kilcoy with up to 20 vans per night staying and a lot taking showers as well as those passing thru and back packers. Hope the bridge is finished quickly So the rest areas can reopened as they r an asset to the shops in town. Thankyou kilcoy for your very welcoming attitude. We also stayed at a sky diving place near toogooloowah for $12 per night Not long ago also. Entertaining to watch. Yes, and a lot of people take a break here n buy from the shops.

We stayed in Kilcoy on Wednesday night. The Information Centre directed us to the overflow park at the back of the sports ground. There are no facilities there but it is only a short walk to the public toilets near the Info centre. Vehicles have to be self contained but there were some there that weren't.
There also toilets in the Info Centre.
I know it is inconvenient at the moment but surely the end result will be a big plus.
Cheers,
David.
