Bailey Caravans

Good morning everyone,

I have just been informed that Bailey Australia will cease operations on 16 August so once again our dream of the GN lifestyle has been shattered - the UK has made this decision for them. They are making a public announcement later today.  They cannot manufacture our van so we start the selection & purchase process all over again.   Recriminations are a waste of energy so I can only think this has happened to us again for a reason.  cry

Robyn it's unfortunate what has happened but Bailey have been struggling with their Aus operations for some time.

Whilst there is a market here for the Euro style imported vans it is only a small one and in those circumstances hard for Bailey to maintain a manufacturing base here.

I believe they may still import some models from the UK here.

That's no good Flags when you have your set on one.

I haven't looked at them for a while but was impressed with their testing system in England. Also some of their ideas on front and back windows that you could see right through on.

I agree and I become a little frustrated with people who decry them because they are 'European' or 'British'.  The panels and the windows that are imported for the construction phase are thermally extremely efficient - that's why we liked them.  The vans are built here for aussie conditions on aussie chassis.  They are a quality product and the staff there in Melbourne are quality people.  I feel for them.

They are lovely vans, its a real pity that they've ''gone under''.

We met a couple not long ago that had owned a 20+ft Bailey & were very happy with it.

What they weren't happy with was all the jibes from other caravaners about their van.

Including one very rude woman in a Jayco that shouted out while hanging out of her door, ''why did you buy that pommie s**t!''

Makes you wonder sometimes doesn't it. confuse

Yes Olive Oil there is no accounting for ignorance or rudeness.  I am sure there are quite a few people out there like us who are feeling pretty sad today.  Not just for themselves, but for the lovely people at Bailey Australia.

Hi ,i`ts only Bailey AU that have ceased production .Bailey UK, the same company that has been going for the last 70 odd years is still in full production . i If you want one it can be ordered . Just have patience and it will arrive .
No differant really than us in NZ ordering a Jayco (we did) just a bit longer wait .There are quite a few people here in NZ now that are direct ordering UK caravans from wholesale suppliers over there .
