The Oxley highway has some VERY windy sections on it, great if you are on a motor bike. I had my son drive it in our car while he was on his L plates and he managed well. If you are towing a caravan though, you will just need to be careful and use low gear. Having said all that though, most of the road is quite easy.
can anybody advise me as to using the Waterfall Way or the Oxley Hwy to go from Armidale to Port Macquarie
Preferable to use the Oxley, although Waterfall Way is more scenic. Both have slow and windy sections, but Oxley is the pick of the two,in my opinion.Cheers
Hi Chris....great to see someone who is not trying to make their car do things for which it was not designed. That is a good sized van for the car that you have. You will enjoy your trip, whichever road you choose,as there is some beautiful scenery through those areas. You might like to check what the speed limit now is,as I heard through the grapevine that some do- gooders were pressing for a 60km/hr limit? Another example of catering to the lowest common denominator. If you cannot stand the heat, get out of the kitchen! Enjoy your travels.Cheers

Both roads are very windy and need to be taken with care. Waterfall way has signage on some of the narrow sections requesting you stop if trucks are coming through the curves. Oxley hwy doesn't carry any signage but trucks will travel on wrong side of road as they try to maintain speed up the hills , so be careful and take your time.
Also don't forget to stop at Ginger Creek, best food around. Hardly any local uses the Oxley, as you the driver and your passenger and also dogs, WILL get car sick, it is the worst road in Australia for that.

What a load of BS. Driven that road many a time and no car sickness from me, wife or dog.
The Oxley was my first experience with towing a caravan...going up. That was fun.
Yes it's got lots of bends but unless you're a complete idiot and drive accordingly, or you happen to meet one going the other way, you'll be fine. Some great views going down.
Thanks for this info, next question we are now inW.A. And am looking on crossing from Manjimup to Margaret River, seem to have several choices but seem to be very hilly. Appreciate suggestions please
