hi folks... ive bought a 94 coaster lwb out of commercial service 12 months ago. The tyres have been regulary rotated. They have 5 tread blocks on them of which all the outer block have slightly more wear than the others... this coaster has done some bush work evident from mud on the underbody and im hoping the front tortions had been wound up a tad that would account for the wear...im also hoping, because of the rigorous standards a commercial bus has to maintain, this normal for the lwb?
i would appreciated any comments
If you see the tires on the front worn unevenly then you need a wheel alignment. If they have been rotated then more of them will be uneven. All vehicles need a wheel alignment regularly even commercials.
The first thing however should be to have it checked for worn or damaged suspension and steering joints and bushes etc. Repair as needed then get a proper alignment at a truck place. It pays for itself by saving the tires. After you have done this you will get a good run out of it trouble free. Winding up the torsion bars a bit would not cause uneven wear.
Toyota Coasters are good workers and dirt roads will not damage them unduly and if you saw them in third world countries on the road 24/7 fully loaded you would not be concerned. Of course they need more maintenance than on good roads. But all commercials should get regular checking and repair as required before any compulsory checks.

IF theres been no maintenance to suspension or steering ? At this age ?? I would say a few ball joints need replacing . They are NOT expensive ! A little labour to replace . But considering the safety, important job they do Im
Not slow at replacing them . With two people , start engine turn steering wheel
approximately half a turn back and forwards . The other person looks at the steering ball joints . If theres any plays? You notice it . Doesnt check suspension , thats a little more involved ! Does the suspension crack or creak under brakes or when turning ? Is a sign they are warn . Yes go to truck garage for check . The guys who do your pink slip
If in NSW . Makes better driver feel, also knowing its in top condition !!
does that model have a I-beam axle or wish bone suspension
Wish bone !! But do not forget the rear shackel bushes too.

the reason I asked if I beam or wishbone is trucks that came out of japan about that time (hino) had bad tyre wear on the front and needed a axle bend to correct the camper/castor to suit aussie roads
Winding up the torsion bars a bit would not cause uneven wear.
