currently in a cheap waterside camp in QLD where many vanners have their dogs. We have our small dog with us too and generally like dogs.
But have seen many examples of people not being responsible by letting their dogs roam through other peoples sites. Male dogs lifting their legs on other peoples tyres and belongings, dogs rushing out from their site when other dogs are being walked past on a leash. I don't care that your dog is "just being friendly" - my dog has a nervous disposition and rushing dogs upset her.
And the biggest issue is those dogs who wander from their own site do their 'business' else-where. The owners are unaware of where the dog droppings are so don't pick it up and dispose of it in an acceptable manner.
Come on dog owners , not everyone loves you pooch like you do. Just because there is no sign asking to keep your dog on a leash, do the right thing and keep you dog confined to your area.

As Jamjar said; nearly all the large "Free Camps" were littered with dog (I hope) faeces. Surely the owners of these pets are aware that their animals are doing this - At least I hope they keep an eye on them when they are running around as there are a lot of 10/80 laced baits out there.

Yep. Said wankers are often the reason dogs get banned when they should be absolutely no problem if properly trained and looked after.
I love it when you walk past a van on the road or pathway provided and some mutt comes tearing out growling and trying to bite your leg off whilst their moronic owner yells out " Don't worry, he is just saying hello".
I recall seeing this happen recently and the fellow being set upon put the slipper straight into the dog sending it flying. He then responded to the owner saying "Yeah. Same here"
It is not the dog, just the cretins who can't or won"t control them.
We don't camp in c.van parks at all with our dogs, we freecamp mostly in out of the way areas, maybe miles from nowhere, it does annoy me a lot, when we are set up in a remote area with our dogs, and a "Scared" camper pulls up very close to us, and proceeds to deride us for having our dogs with us. "what Buddy, we are ,miles from bloody nowhere , their are 500 camping areas here and you camp 20 feet from us! get your own space!"

not suggesting the baiting of dogs/cats in any way, but the use of 1080 is not a rare thing for the control of feral dogs /dingos. anyone who has crossed the Nullarbor/central australia should have seen the signs warning of the danger . if people don't train their dogs or keep them on a leash/ under control they may pickup a baited piece of meat that may be miles from where it was dropped. 1080 baits are dispersed for the most part from the air, these may be picked up by birds a dropped in other areas, very indiscriminate a lot of non target species fall victim. the less than responsible dog owners who let their dogs run loose any where, run the risk of being a non target species as far as my though process goes, your the one who thought of baiting animals in designated free camps i only posted a warning to people who let their animal run loose and may not be aware of the risk were ever the travel the other sign that you might see is "a fed dingo is a dead dingo" refers to people feeding them they become a pest/risk an get "removed"

a lot of it is laid by air craft an may be spread far and wide by other animals /birds if you travel with your dog beware if you are anywhere near where it is being used. signs "should" be posted to warn people
dogs have a habit of sniffing things out an the first thing people do when they stop is let the dog out to stretch and have a sniff around
I have often wondered how many of the native non targeted species get bait. Animals seem to be very scarce in WA and Bait warnings are quite prevalent. Couldn't help but notice the difference between WA and SA. Changed so quickly. Numerous snakes and lizards on the road in SA. Don't remember seeing any in WA.
Around where we live there are a small percentage of owners who "didn't notice" their dog leaving land mines. We catch & tell them where it is.
Some say I don't have a bag. I keep a bag folded up in my wallet &.... here you go! The look is priceless as you can see they didn't have any intention of picking it up.

Came across a freecamper who had a rat eat through the wiring of her camper and gnored at the wall trying to get inside. Cost hundreds to repair. To stop it happening again she put rat baits under her car. Scary thought for irresponsible dog owners.
