Apparently some of the nineties model Long Wheel Base HZB50 (4.2) Coasters sold in Australia where able to be weight rated as either under 4.5t or over 4.5t. This aspect would be desirable rathan swapping out parts from the SWB which is currently required in Victoria to de-rate the weight rating of the LWB model..
Does anyone know how to tell if one has a dual weight rated HZB50 coaster?
I doubt that dual weight rating is true. Toyota sets the weight but it is possible that some have been passed by an engineer to be lower than 4.5T. However what parts would you have to swap with the SWB model to reduce their capacity ??? There would be a second modification 'plate' fitted near the VIN plate if the original specs were altered.
The problem actually is that after conversion to a motorhome there is no weight allowance left for carrying anything. Depends on how it is fitted out of course but some/most conversions are heavy built. The imported LWB Coasters are often rated for under 4.5T if required but it would be wise to put them on a weighbridge to see what they actually weigh ready for a trip.
the manufacturer's VIN does not show a GVM weight. The ADR VIN does show a GVM.
Parts to swap are springs, shocks & pissibly rims, tyres. There is another way to derate them - do the conversion, load it up then weighbridge ticket, then engy.
Tare on mine with seats is 2990. Im doing a light minimal fitout, so not a full bathroom or teak cabinet doors 8) ... many thanks for your replies ..
