Loose Wineguard mast.

My Winegard sensar 11 has a lot of play in the mast, I have tried removing handle and tightening the shaft (old tube type spark plug spanner fits)but this just makes it to hard to turn, and I now have it as tight as possible. The play must be elsewhere, I note on installation manuals that the direction shaft and wheel is cut to length so wondering if mine has been cut short not giving enough support for top shaft?? I will give it a total strip down when home next week, but it has been loose sine the van was new.

Any ideas welcome.

 Hi JBD,

Yes mine is the same.

I took the handle off and tightened the big nut only to find I could not turn it when it was reassembled.

I had to back off the nut a bit and now on a windy day it still rattles.

It certainly appears that the shaft need to be cut a precise length.

In the new year I will pull mine apart and have a look if I can not fit a friction washer or something similar to keep the unit tight so it wont rattle.

I was talking to a bloke who is on a site for a long time and he said his was the same and all he did was set the position to get the best signal and then he tightened the nut and when he moves he loosens it off a bit to fold it down. Not much fun if you move every day.

Regards

Rob
