Batteries can be upgraded...

Took the van away for 3 days last week to get back into the swing of things, as with my ECT treatment and health problems we have not been able to use the van as much. Next month we have a 10 day Travel Auctions down near Portland.

I found the DC TO DC charger running 16 volts causing the solar controller to cut out. Also found the 240 charger that runs off the genset or grid would not function, and then the third night the diesel heater spat the dummy!!!! It runs for a little while and then blows cold air. We managed to keep the 12 volt supply going by using our 120W portable panel following the sun.

Yesterday I saw a Face Book market place advert for batteries suitable for our van. I got 3 x 100 amp/hr for $220 to replace the two we have been using. I took the bathroom scales and my ubeaut battery tester. They weight 31.7kg and show up as 100% good batteries. The two old batteries are showing 13% and 69% with the new ones showing 100%, so time will tell if I got a good deal I suppose.biggrin

I would appreciate help with adding the third battery to my system.

As I understand it, to get a balanced connection -

Using crimped connectors of the largest cable you can reasonably get & all straps/connectors the shortest possible but all the same length (For 3 batteries) :-

Connect Batt1 +ve to Batt2 +ve, & Batt2 +ve to Batt3 +ve  and the same with the negatives.

        ie. Batt1  -ve to Batt2 -ve, &  Batt2 -ve to Batt3 -ve

Then connect your cables to the charger etc with its +ve to batt 1 +ve and the -ve to battery 3 -ve
