REAR BLINKERS

G Day. I have a 2010 Jayco sterling poptop. I am trying to replace the left rear led blinker. The wiring goes into the body. Do I just cut the wires & wire in the replacement or is there some way of getting in behind where the cable goes into the body.I know the answer is probably very simple but I just don't know.  Thanks.

Hi Bobbear,

Check your 7 pin plug first, LED lights should be the last thing to go.

Cheers Bobdown

As above- check the plug first. The pins are split, and after a while they lose their springiness. If you get a thin screwdriver or a knife blade, you can spread the pins slightly (be careful not to prise them too far open or you may have trouble getting the plug into the socket). Also, the socket can get dirt in the contacts, so a spray of contact cleaner may help if the problem continues.

As for cutting cables etc, the cabling runs through between the inner and outer skins on the caravan, so it is impossible to get to. The cabling for all the lights will come in a harness, probably going to the right side first (to avoid the access door on the left side). So if you still have problems after cleaning the pins/socket etc, note the colour of the cables on the left and right sides. There will be cable for the stop and tail lights, which will be the same on each side. The odd one out will be the left blinker. Check at the trailer plug and see how good the contact is for that colour (and while you are at it, check all of them for tightness).

Hi, in your post you do not say why you are replacing the blinker, does it simply not work or is it actual smashed/broken.

If it is a case of simply not working then as other post states make sure all is clean and connecting properly.

If broken, then I have replaced incandescent side lights with LED ones and simply cut and joined the wires or earthed to the body (if it is aluminium), just do not lose the wires inside the panel.....

As I thought it was so simple. Cleaned & spread the pins in the plug, hey presto the blinker now works. Thanks for the advice, now I will know in future if it occurs again.
