Yesterday I saw a BT50 (new) set up to tow a little van, little and light, and yes a WDH. he would have to keep looking in the rear view to know he was towing anything. I have seen a few but that took the cake.
Yes Ian I know what you mean. A while ago I seen a very decked out Nissan patrol with a Chinese camper trailer on the back. And yes a wdh. I guess grand dad has one on his falcon. !! Regards Pete
So I just read another thread started by you. Boredom!! What better way to relieve boredom than start a wdh thread ?? Regards Pete. Yeah the popcorn will be flowing shortly. And I dont use one.
You guessed it, caught out again! Dam.
I remember when I first joined this forum, there was plenty of friendly (and not so) banter, with persons being sent to the naughty room on a regular basis. Now its all gone quiet.

Dont be too worried Ian! It never hurts to have people read about the WDHs,where some may discover that a WDH is often next to useless. They often are used by people who are trying to make a car do things for which it was not designed.Firstly, they increase TBO ( Towball overhang,or distance from rear axle to hitchpoint),and many of them weigh upwards of 25kg.These two things dramatically increase the weight applied to your car's rear axle when a van is hooked up,exacerbating the very "problem" some are trying to fix. Then you get those people who have no idea how a WDH works,or indeed how to operate one.A WDH does NOT change towball weight, but shifts some weight from a car's rear axle, and puts it back onto the car's front axle, but it also transfers weight to your van's axle group. If you already are running close to your van's maximum GTM,or indeed GVM,this transfer of weight can cause the van to be overloaded, and illegal. If the WDH is tightened too much,it may remove too much weight from the car's rear axle, making it lighter and encouraging oversteer. Buy a suitable car and forget the WDH.....I run at 6800kg GCM,legal on all axles, and no WDH.Cheers

It really is about time we stopped talking about weight and spoke of "Moments" which is weight x distance from a fulcrum point. Once persons realize the effect of moments on their rig the story would be different. For instance our van a Jayco Silverline is for once a very balanced unit. When we brought it, it was not, but I have moved the 2nd water tank from way up forward to just behind the rear of the suspension, and placed the grey water tank up the middle between the suspension. Because ours have the recliner chairs up front, the club lounge is gone, so no storage except for the front boot. the Kitchen, is just forward of the axle center, batteries over the axles, the fridge just forward, and the water storage over the axles as well. In other words the weight is centered just forward of the axle center, and it tows really well.
The point is that the weight is there, but very little distance, the moments are low.
I had a chat to a fellow who was selling his WDH as he had replaced it with a bit of fancy anti sway gear, saying this new van tows like a bitch, compared to his traded in one, I noticed that it had storage at both ends of the van, water tanks up front etc. etc. In other words the moments were bad.
I don't use a WDH either, the van tows nicely and the rig sits level. But I do not for one moment say that they are not necessary, but depends entirely on the rig, and should be considered accordingly. How ever the rig I saw was taking it to the extreme.

Hahaha It will certainly relieve the boredom but when this topic runs its course or gets locked then Iana may want to start one on Lithium, MPPT, Solar or the use of the current range of utes for towing.

Hey Rob, you forgot generators !!!
So I did Peter I am sure someone will give us a run down of the best and worst types to buy, or even if we actually need one with a solar set up.
