Hi all, yet another RV wannabe. Deciding what rig to buy on a budget for retirement.

Thinking of a slide-on, but I have already read about a few downsides. Like being top-heavy, and easy to overload.
Campervan too small as an option for the two of us, as we like our creature comforts. Usually no shower or loo. Not keen or caravans or huge motor-homes. We would have to buy a very, very old "Winnabago" style rig to remain in budget. And I guess old means unreliable and libel to break down.
Those camper-trailers don't seem like much. Basically a tent with an outdoor kitchen.
Probably buy a pop-up type rig though, so that we can garage it while in use.
Anyway, hope you are all safe out there with all the bush fires going on...

Don't rush into purchase, carefully consider all options - Download free technical and purchasing information at Caravan Council of Australia www.caravancouncil.com.au/
There are a lot of "Horror stories" out there and most of them are true.Price does not equate to quality. Go to local caravan park/s and free camps meet travellers of all ages in assorted rigs - most owners are happy to tell you the pro's and con's of their set-ups. Private message any of the members on this site if you note they own something you are considering.
Hope to see you out there on the Wallaby.

Good advice, thanks possum. I am starting my research early, and probably won't buy for a year. We are planning to rent different rigs [caravans, motor-homes, slide ons, etc] to experience stuff first. Salespeople are enthusiastic about whatever they are selling, strangely enough!
