Parking sensors on a 2012 Fiat Jayco Conquest

My recently purchased vehicle has 4 parking sensors at the rear, but they don't work. Would appreciate if anyone has any experience with these. Are they usually operational, or do they need to be wired up or activated? Many thanks in advance.

I have them on my Collie but haven't worked for about 18 months now. A warning light comes on the dash saying to service the reverse sensors. I deliberately haven't said anything about it when being serviced and no one has mentioned it needs doing. Interesting.

Parking sensors use ultrasonic audio to gauge distance and use a number of speaker/microphone like devices to produce/receive that audio. It is quite possible dirt has accumulated on some of the sensors causing them to be unable to measure and, it's my guess, if the software detects a failure of any sensor or a significant difference in their readings it simply shuts the whole system down rather than give possible false information to the driver, at least that's how I'd write it. So it could be as simple as cleaning the sensors?

I would like the controller to tell the user what is wrong by way of an LED flash code. In fact that should be standard practice for any device, rather than a dumb warning light. The error code need only be reported once at each start-up, not continuously.

Thanks for your suggestions. Sensors are clean. Will have to get Fiat in Melbourne to check them out.
