How can this Caravan Park take money from people knowing this? We had strong winds gusting over the lake spraying water over us and our caravan - needless to say we didn't stay there for our planned two weeks.

That lake was created to supply cooling water to the 2 power stations. It is fed by water from Glenbawn dam near Scone to keep it topped up.
The campsite has been a long term home to many mineworkers for a very long time now and the problem with the lake water was discovered a few years ago(cant quite remember exactly when) I am sure if you searched online you would find more info about it.
Being an intense mining area there are very few campsites around. Merriwa has a couple of spots and a nice little cp and is a nice small town.

Yep KFT, Knew the history of the Lake, I worked on both the Power Stations when being built - was on top of the boiler housing frame when RAAF Pilots turned their F111's sideways coming through the valley and did a supersonic burst between the stacks - Scared the Crap out of us.

You were not in any danger. You have to have water forced up your nose by jumping, diving or falling into the water. You cannot get this by drinking or touching the water or even eating fish caught from the lake. Certainly some spray is not going to do it.
We have a similar ameoba in several lakes in WA, and in hot weather entry for water sports are banned due to the risk.
It is a naturally occurring ameoba that is present in the soil and has been here since life began.

Wow that would have been something to see
