I've been checking over my caravan in readiness for the lifting of interstate travel restrictions. Although the van is only 3.5 years old, the vents over the toilet and shower (355 x 355 with 12V fan) have both deteriorated badly from UV affecting the plastic inside frame that supports the flyscreen. This has resulted in the tiny clips that hold the screen in place dropping off and hence the screen has dropped to the floor.
These vents are American made and obviously totally unsuited to Australian conditions (and probably anywhere else that there is sunshine!) due to the zero resistance to UV and also because the insect screen is too coarse to keep out insects other than flies.
I can get replacements - there seem to be many brands that look similar in size and design.
Have you had similar experience and what do you suggest is a remedy?
Yes it is a Ventline. I took the easy way out and bought just the inner part that failed from Award RV for less than $30 each and all is good now (for a couple of years at least - I hope). If I have to replace it again, I might try a different brand and replace the lot.
Hi I just replaced my ventline flyscreen and inner section. The external cover does not come with the pack which I bought for 25.00 from a caravan shop so best to use the old fashion way screwdriver when outing back in
Cheers

Hi,
When we purchased our 4 year caravan the vents were "how you do", after having new ones fitted, in my wisdom got up a ladder and painted them with silver frost, not only do I think they going to last longer but have darken the caravan for night time. A great job done.
Well I decided to install auto satellite tv dish whilst in covid lockdown and found same problem with toilet and shower vents. Unfortunately new fiamma was just a wee bit smaller 15 years on. Just a bit of pine glued glued and screwed and job done. Now to finish installing diesel heater and we have an up to date modern van.
