Generator

Im looking at a Gentrax 3.5 kW pure sine wave petrol inverter generator. Has anyone else got one and what do you think of it? Im only thinking about it as a backup and for the odd time I would use it. Your thoughts and feedback are appreciated Regards

Hi Shmiko

yes Ive got one, I purchased it about six years ago and although Ive never used it when camping or caravanning I have used it quite a few times here where we currently live. We unfortunately get blackouts on occasions and when we do because we are in a rural area and on tank water we dont have water when we dont have electricity. So when weve got a blackout I hook up the generator to run the water pump and if its dark we also plug in a couple of lamps and the  fridge and tv. When we get blackouts they can last from half an hour up to five or six ours so it gets a good workout at times. Ive always found it easy to start and its reasonably economical to run although its a bit noisey when its on the verandah.

cheers

Ashley

Sorry OP no personal experience of them but I must say they look impressive:

$800 delivered for the above.

Also at 150cc the engine is a decent size and I do like that it holds 1L of oil as opposed to the 400ml of my Honda EU20i. However at 5500rpm the engine runs pretty fast, hopefully it has an eco throttle.

Does anyone know who makes the engines?

I own one of these generators and Iam very happy with it. Remote start doesnt work every time , does make a bit of noise under heavy start up loads but settles down to a quite hum . Handles every thing Ive given it . The engine is Chinese but seems well made les

3.5kw is pretty.big do you need that size, you need to list all your appliances that you would use electric wise, dont forget water heater air con plus smaller appliances , ... remember that if you have gas that can reduce your electricity requirements. I get by with a 2.kw generator. Noise is the biggest problem and many locations restrict their use eg national parks in nsw , and many van parks if going for unpowered sites.
