Thought I would start a new thread on this in case anyone is interested.
I have managed to secure an GVM upgrade for my FJ cruiser here in WA .
The upgrade includes new springs and shock absorbers .
new vin plate , etc.,
Still working out the final details . Thanks to Yobarr he is a great help !
A bit costly.
Its only 130 kgs but should be enough .
The exciting thing is , I;ve also, by luck found a firm that will upgrade my van GVM by 300kgs yes thats right almost double the present GVM ,
Although I only need around 50 kg ,so.
This lets me carry a little less in the car , hell I could probably get away with just the van upgrade.
Dont know' how they can do this as from what I can understand they do nothing to the suspension , or the van ,you get a new plate all legal etc.,
They said: "we check with the manufacturer whom usually understate the vans gvm by quite a bit ????
Let you know how it all goes.
Has anyone done a gvm upgrade on their caravan ?
Anyway open to discussion.
Regards Orid

I have had two van gvm upgrades first was a fulcher tandem with ford rims .The original gvm was 2250 kg up to 2800 kg the van I have now has 3.7 ton cruise master suspension and original gvm was 3250 up to 3500 kg both upgrades only involved taking to a blue slip registration center and paperwork and have never had any problems when loaded to their capacity.
I have also had a gvm and gcm upgrade on the tug but I won't open up that topic .
Cheers

Hi Peter...I suspect that you mean "GTM upgrade" which is an upgrade on the axle group's carrying capacity? I easily increased the capacities on one of my vans, with my GTM increased from 1960kg to 3200kg,and my ATM (GVM usually relates to powered vehicles,I believe?) from 2180kg to 3500kg.Details tomorrow.Cheers
P.S Thanks for the kind words.Always I am happy to help those who are willing to learn.

Thank you yobarr yes we are happy with what we have done to make our travels more enjoyable and safer and we are still working in grain and agriculture. We are carrying a lot of extra cargo and living on the road every bit of payload is used considering a lot of manufacturers give very little payload on new vans have a great day

Well now here is a bombshell ,
Ive been doing some more digging , i do like to check thouroughly:)
Aparrently the gvm upgrade on the tow vehicle does not alter your GCM,
Now if thats the case it is a complete waste of time in my situation.
If I load the car to the new GVM , which is plus 130kg it will reduce my towing capacity by same amount.
Hope Im wrong on this ,
Regards Orid

Hi Peter...please be aware that I've had a few (quite a few!) beers, but at the moment,it seems that you'll still be OK? Your GCM figure is 4760kg,and maximum towing capacity is 2250kg. However, the towball weight (225kg or 10%) of this towed load becomes part of your car's GVM,so weight on van wheels (GTM if you like) is 2025kg.Because your GCM is 4760kg,we now need to deduct your GTM (2025kg) from that figure to get maximum allowed weight on wheels of your car...seems to be 2735kg? Tomorrow I'll check these figures, but, with a small GVM upgrade,it all looks OK at the moment? Cheers

It depends if the vehicle you are upgrading has a published GCM rating. It it does then you cannot legally exceed it. On the other hand if it does not have a published rating your limit will be GVM plus GTM which will be ok.

If you contact Lovell's springs they will give you all the information on gvm and gcm upgrades for certain vehicles .This includes second stage of manufacturing and pre rego but beware every state has different rules and lots of bad info out there about these upgrades ,even the RMS don't really know the rules but at the end of the day its making your vehicle much safer and enjoyable to travel with as long as you do it legally.
Cheers

Apparently Lovell's where he only company which give gcm upgrades in some states when I did mine 18 months ago when you did a gvm upgrade on certain vehicles all approved by the RMS and that's 650 kg on car and 1050 kg overall on dmax
Cheers
