In the process of weight reduction in the vans load 1 Battery and 2 Solar Panels are surpless to requirement, as we have no desire to free camp they just dead weight.
Yesterday I removed both panels but the mounts are sikaflexed to the roof, is there anything that will work to help remove the mounts.
Of the 2 panels one has started to fail the glass cover has crazed and cracked, the other is ok, another up side of their removal was the amount of leaf matter that had accumulated under the panels that was cleared away.
Next job is to give the roof of the van a wash and then repaint with Ormonoid Silvershield.
When I was still working we used to clean off fresh sika with turps, so I would soak with turps and see if it softens a bit and then use sharp chisel or stanley blade etc. Metho might take off paint so try small area first. It will not be easy.
Start by cutting off the mounts using a vibrating multi tool. Then cut (shave) as much of what is left off, again with a multi tool using a plain, sharp, non serrated blade. Use some water as a lubricant. Eazy peazy. Take just a couple of minutes. You will get 99% off like this. Then some cutting compound will get anything left off, but if you are repainting, just leave it there. It will stick to the Sikaflex and cover well. Cheers, Peter

I'd probably use a multi tool as Peter suggests, because I have one but if you don't have & don't want to buy one I'd get one of these which will get the mounts of pretty quickly.
