I am looking at carrying a bike on the rear of the van. van is 18.5 ft and at the moment no trouble with the towing, never noticed any swaying, also use a WDH. The bike weights 15kg, is this enough to cause any swaying or any other difference to the towing of the van. How much weight can you add before it will make a difference.

Hi Wombat50.
It is really hard question to answer not knowing everything about your car and caravan but I did move 17kgs to the rear bumper bar.
Let me tell what brought this about, our caravan is a 6 metre mid door model, just the ensuite behind the rear axle, we loaded it up for a trip away and on the way out I did the weighbridge check but to my horror 320kgs on the towball and near my gross max weight for the caravan. I quickly moved a few items out of the caravan boot to try and lower the towball weight.
At home the follow week I moved the gas bottles back towards the caravan, the storage tube holding the rafters, pegs, 17 kgs in all went to the back bar. Now we travel around with a gross weight weight of 2750kgs and a towball weight last time I checked 272kgs.
4.5 years, approx 65000 kilometres. Very successful but that is my caravan.
No one can really tell you, stand back and be honest with your thoughts.
