I am looking at a van that has two battery boxes located on the chassis and currently used for AGM batteries. I want to go with lithium batteries and use the same battery boxes. Is there any reason why this is not recommended?

Note that I am no expert on this, but I can't see a problem. In fact, all my Lithium batteries are under my bed! Cheers.

You might find one Lithium battery will replace the two you have in the box. !!!

Unless you need AH for a row of days of inclement weather.

Does 'located on the chassis' mean they are outside? No batteries like getting hot but Lithium are particularly susceptible to it - it's the main reason they aren't suitable for under the bonnet cranking applications. So if they are outside in the sun or a closed box in the sun, it's a no-no.

Some people have them under the bonnet and have had no issues. You will find them also sold as suitable for underbonnet. If the agms have worked fine in their current position then there is no reason why the lithium should perform well. . I,ve had agm under the bonnet of work cars and these have had no problems. Heat is a killer, for sure . Replacing the 2 agm with 2 lithiums will give you double the power reserve for 1/3 the weight. I use Itech 120x. They are also completely waterproof which may be handy for chassis box installation.
Lead acid batteries are designed to be run down 100%. If you need to do this once a month for 5 years that is only 60 times. Don't stress out over it. If you have 200Ah to run your fridge longer in crap weather you would otherwise be stuffed with only 100Ah of lithium.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I should have been a bit more detailed as to what my issue is.
The new caravan we are looking at has two battery boxes attached to the van chassis a meter or so in front of the van wheels and about 30cm from the van side. Picture attached.
They normally hold AGM batteries. We are changing to Lithium batteries and would like to use the same boxes to save space in the van however I have heard that it may not be suitable for Lithium batteries. I have not had the chance to follow up on that and in my research so far it seems that things like vibration, distance from controller, heat, moisture and dust are far more of an issue with Lithium and if attached to the chassis they will be a bit more vulnerable and thus may not be a good solution.

Check out these lithium. My mate has them in his boat and vibration has not affected them. I use 3 of them for camping. If you wait till they are special they are about $780 each. Will be ok in the boxes on your van. They are waterproof as well. I have one in the rear tub of my vehicle also and the off road work has no effect on it.
My friend had his fitted by the same supplier, his old batteries where in a box on the outside ,the supplier who fitted the Lithium said it was not advisable to fit them on the outside box ,so they fitted them inside,
Not sure why .
Best take the advise of the battery supplier.
Regards Orid
