Once again asking for advice/input re Anderson plug cabling. Back in March of this year I ask for advise re wiring car and caravan with with Ando plugs, wiring etc, and received a lot of good advise from members.
After failed attempts by me and family I bit the bullet and had both wired up by an auto electrician ( he also installed Oricom uhf cb), I did stipulate that I required 6B&S/awg wiring (as advised by forum members).
On Thursday I got both vehicles back, on quick glance it seemed that he used 6B&S cabling. However yesterday, I needed to drop the spare wheel from under the disco 3 carrier, I noticed that the Ando plug twin cabling was not as thick as the cabling connected to the battery poles, so I compared the Ando plug cabling to some 6mm I had on hand and it appeared the same thickness and on further checking: I noticed splicing of the 6B&S in the car, I presume its 6B&S, as its thicker than the 6mm just above where he has run the twin core cable down from the battery box into the chassis of the car to the rear bumper. This similar to what he has done with the two Ando plugs on the van, spliced on to 6mm behind b/box, I have had a 20Amp mppt dc to dc charger installed in the van.
My question is: will this splicing of two different types of cabling cause any major issues with delivering appropriate voltage where need and any fussing issues down the track.
As in previous post all and any advice greatly appreciate.
Will check in later now heading for ANZAC service here on the peninsula.
In general it will be ok. You can easily calculate the loss for each individual section & add it all up, & work out whether this is acceptable.
I was loosing 0.17 volts within my fridge so I upgraded the wire. Lazy cost cutting manufacturing!
Splicing wire together. If they are actually spliced then the soldered joint will be better. But it should nevertheless to tied down so there is no stress on the joint.
If the wires are simply overlapped & soldered or a clamp is used this is a weak point asking to fail when you are in the middle of nowhere! Personally I would fix it.

Its hard to tell the exact method of connecting, they are spliced via a connector and then shrieked wrapped: so I?m not certain Ed if soldered connectors or cropped.
I?ll have to see how things pan out over the next month or so before we leave for the west, if borders are open.
Sadly even with yours and other forum members input back in March we still managed to stuff it up. At least we would have had the right cable!
Ill do some checking on the internet to see if you can get pre-rigged units, I believe some seller by the title of Aussie drifter? sells completed units i.e already fused, Ando plug and 7 metre lengths and then use his cable as a pull through unit after cutting off connnector ties on chassis, same for caravan side except for the Ando plug laid for the folding Solar blanket and attached to chassis of caravan.
Today I also noted he didnt run a cable to fridge as I asked, fridge still going to run from battery. Will need to review info/photos you sent back in March re Ando connectors set up.
If you don't have a powerful enough soldering iron for 6awg, a heat gun works very well.
Knock up a jig with offcuts of timber to hold the wires in place, timber clothes pegs will do, wet them first. Use lead/tin solder, better than tin only.

This is just silly..... Hot weather, fridge working harder, someone also keeps opening fridge, resistance in wire.
It all adds up. At least get a decent cable to the fridge.

You don't need anything more than a loop from the cable going to the batteries, to power the fridge when travelling. You do need a voltage sensing relay near the battery connections. Very simple set up.

Sounds like you didn't get what you asked and paid for , ld be taking it back , he obviously didn't want to try and get the larger gauge wire through places ? Seems very odd .... maybe I'm missing something...
After reading your post, I had another look at the invoice, it showed Ando covers, fuses and holders etc, and 6mm twin cable x 6 metres x$6.00 p/m total wire cost, $39.00. 6B&S would be 2/3 times the cost I was charged!
This low value for cable per metre should have rang bells in me. Didnt get charged for heavier gauged wire, eyes blinded by reasonable set up cost didnt read invoice fully. I am now presuming, like you, to much bother to fit heavier gauge wire in spots?
My only come back now, is he did listen to what I requested, but neither did I get charged for an item I didnt get! Didnt rob me just didnt supply!
Will need to find another auto elec. guy if I require any wiring in the future.
Cheers, John.
