Hi All, any advice on wireless rear view cameras ? Do they work on a 21 ft van? Which brands are best? I want to fit one to the back of our tow vehicle as well, and be able to switch from one to the other.
I have read somewhere but can't remember where as we speak sorry Ivan, that wireless is not very successful over 18 foot length vans etc. The picture if any at all is very distorted and very unreliable.
I have a fixed wired full time camera on the back of the aluminium teepee and it is from Safety Dave. I had it fitted during the build and I supplied the camera etc. I have the rear view mirror type screen and all works great. In fact, I wouldn't tow without it. I don't just rely on the camera to see what is behind, I also have Clearview mirrors fitted to Collie. Between both the camera and mirrors I have plenty of reliable rear and side vision.
I also have a reverse camera on the back of the Collie and that is factory fitted and also wouldn't drive without it. That beast is not only good for hooking up the teepee as a solo but also reversing in and out of parking spots or similar.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

For me there are 2 different requirements needing different cameras.
1. To use like a rear view mirror to see vehicles coming along the road behind you. This needs to have a field of view angle of about 45 deg. and be designed to stay on for hours.
2. To use for reversing your vehicle which needs a field of view angle of about 90 deg. These make vehicles following you on the highway too small to see unless they are very close to you.
I'm very pleased with the Safety Dave dual cameras on the back of our van, which does both jobs, and the monitor that clips over the car's rear view mirror. It makes you even more confident about exactly what's behind you than when you aren't towing anything.
Re. Wireless connection for cameras, I've only used these on a car back-up camera. It worked ok but not as flicker free as the hard wired ones. We had one funny experience on a ferry when our monitor showed horses that were in a truck on the deck below us. Must have been a similar system.
Hi I have used a wireless camera on my 17.5 Jayco for 3 years and it works great. I bought another one this weekend a s a back up just in case. The only place I have had trouble is near some phone towers and travelling through Townsville.
Cheers Stewart

Hi Itchum , i have 2 wireless cameras (long range and reverse)for the last 3 yrs on our Jayco 20ft ,no problems . Veise is the brand ,7inch monitor in cab into cig lighter for power ,and cameras hard wired into rear electrics . Only losses signal for a milli second now and again ,going around large building usually in towns . Can`t fault it . Cheers Andy .
I bought a wifi camera off eBay to fit to my 20ft Jayco and it works great, I use my IPad to connect to the camera so I can see traffic behind me and also use it to reverse safely. Pic of the camera I bought below.
