Info on local dog parks

It has occurred to me it might be helpful if people put up info on their favorite dog parks close to where they live...this would give nomads an insider's knowledge. In my humble opinion an exercised dog is a happy dog, but it is hard to tell from eg council info what parks are like and whether it would be possible to park close by with a caravan.

I can start. About 20 minutes from Adelaide & 10 minutes from the freeway which comes from Melbourne is the Balhannah dog park.  This is the most glorious fenced off leash park. It would be at least 5 acres & has a lovely winter creek with huge trees. It is the best dog park I have ever seen & is a lovely spot to have a picnic (provided you like dogs).

Then there is O'Sullivans Beach a full-time off leash beach which is about 1 km long. Parking a van might be tricky on a weekend in summer but most times during the week should be fine. It is about 30 minutes south of Adelaide. It is just south of the O'Sullivan's Beach boat ramp

In the Riverland at Berri, Martin's Bend has a cheap, casual council camp ground ...it is pretty basic with only toilets, but you are right on the Murray River & there is a nice loop walk that goes from the camp ground... it takes my dogs & I about 40 minutes, the walk isn't well shaded in sections so can get warm on a hot day

At Renmark the Paringa Paddocks are a "dogs on leash" area but there are a number of walks in there, the one I normally do is a bit over an hour & starts from next to the caravan park. I haven't stayed there but the Discovery Caravan Park at Renmark looks fabulous & you can also camp at Paringa Paddocks-no facilities & I think it needs to be booked.

Halls Creek in the East Kimberley. Do NOT let your dog walk off leash in the street, the cheeky dogs are everywhere. Go to the oval, which is in town, right opposite IGA. Go in the morning, early. Just make sure your dog doesn't pick anything up - chicken bones of the cooked variety are everywhere. There are a few gaps in the fence, but if you stick close to your dog, you are good to go.

If your dog has good recall, walk around behind the motel/aerodrome, rare to see a cheeky dog there. I walk my boy there off leash twice daily, we also hit the Oval every morning.

It would be advisable to be very vigilant of the brown tick disease in the top half of WA & NT, if I had a dog I wouldn't take it in those areas at all.

I live in the East Kimberley, walk my husky twice every day. We go to the oval and do the aerodrome loop. He's tick treated every month and so far has never picked up a tick. We've lived in tick areas here and in Qld for years - had dogs that entire time, and with the monthly treatments, never had a tick. He's kept out of long grass etc. Gets the treatments and is checked over regularly.

North Albury, Logan Road next door to Bunton Park Football oval, roadside parking usually ok. About 5 minutes off Hume Freeway, Race course Road exit for North bound, but South going is Thurgoona exit, then maybe 10 minutes.
