Have you got MaxiLamps <https://ledautolamps.com/combination-lamps/329-maxilamp-3.html> fitted on the rear of your caravan? My four year old JB Caravan does and I noticed when regularly testing the lights that some of the (3) modules on each side of the rear fail to light up. Sometimes its 1/3 or 2/3 . This happens whether it is tail or stop or indicator. Clearly there is a loose connection inside these totally sealed units, but I wonder how common this kind of failure is amongst the members of this forum.
I have contacted the manufacturer and sent the two units back today as a warranty claim (7 year warranty) and am waiting for them to get back to me.
Think you will find that LED Autolamps will cover these under warranty, provided you can supply proof of purchase date, I had a similar experience with a different light cluster (same age) and they replaced those.
My problem turned out to be water ingress into the electronic circuit board, so when you refit the new units, use a better sealant than silicone, which is prone to failure when used on some plastic products.
Whenarewethere - Yes. The lights misbehave after removing and testing with a 12 volt battery.
Bob, they appeared to be very well sealed with silicone and the units themselves are totally sealed; potted with epoxy (IP67), but who knows how effective all the sealing is?
They also have silica gel beads inside the enclosure and because on one of my units (the worst behaving) the beads are everywhere inside - shake it like maracas. I suspect that the cause of the failure is a dodgy internal electrical connection. However, I'll wait to see what LED autolamps have to say. If they weren't so expensive (~$250 each) I wouldn't bother to chase warranty.
Hi
Had a similar issue with these lamps. Replaced under warranty by LED Autolamps. Issue was the van manufacturer had placed silicon behind lamps blocking the breather membrane.
I had three LED Autolamps side marker lamps fail. Issue was the join between the amber and red lenses wasn't waterproof so moisture got in and the electronics eventually failed. I give their products a wide berth now and only use Narva.
This morning I found two brand new replacement MaxiLamp lights delivered to my doorstep. The company has honoured their warranty very promptly. I see that the new ones have a breather port in them with clear instructions not to block the breather. I didn't see any breather in the faulty ones, but they did have a lot of silicone on them! The new lights did not have any test result or explanation accompanying them. However, I am very grateful that LED AutoLamps take their responsibilities seriously and look after their customers.
