seal kit for trail-mate

hi guys,

any one on here purchased the service kit for one of these units

I have just started to service mine but find that the main shaft seal has failed and contaminated the oil and is not supplied as part of the "service kit" nor is the large O ring for the reservior  confuseconfuseconfuse

I would have thoght that for the price of the kit these 2 components would have been supplied as there is no where on the site that details these parts as extra's. The shaft seal failing concerns me as this is a crtical part and i suspect that the original part is not up to scratch and this is more than likely why there are reports of legs dropping down and several ways of preventing this happening with a mod ie return springs or strapping up

Oil is not supplied in the kit as it is rarely necessary for the vast majority of repairs, supplying it for every repair would be a waste. The kits are mailed to you, is it permissible to post oil through the postal service? The instructions that came with my kit way back included the specification for the oil if it is necessary.

What is the O-ring for the reservoir? Is there one between the container and the main body of the jack? You do not remove it if you are following the repair directions. If you have removed the reservoir cylinder then I suspect that you should be able to reuse it if you did not bugger it during the removable (it is not a wearing part.) If you have buggered it you should be able to get a replacement through an engineering supplier who carries a range of O-rings. Your local auto supermarket should be able to advise of the nearest supply for O-rings they do not stock.

If you apply an opposite force on them they will creep a bit. That is why the legs drop when they are subjected to the vibration whilst travelling. That is a natural occurrence and has nothing to do with failures within the seal.
