Unheard of Inverter Generator

A big question LOOKING FOR ADVICE PLEASE.. my son has given me and it is very generous a new "Gensafe GHS2000i.... 2000W STARTUP/1600w RUN"inverter generator" . He selected that one as it has a Yamaha 4stroke engine, my concern is that it wont power my "ibis 3 air conditioner".

I have googled and can't find any reference to " Gensafe" other than Sydney Tools who mainly sell them with no country of manufacture or any reviews. Secondly there is a Gensafe GF2000 inverter generator that give 2400w start and 2000 watts running, ( this model is cheaper by $300 ,I asked why cheaper answer ...not Yamaha engine ). What do I do?? i have not put oil or fuel in Gen. If only he asked me !.

I Need to be confident that the Gensafe is not a a use once and can't be repaired model.

If he has generously given it to you, then whats the problem? I have several diferent size cheap generators that are fine. The only generator failure i have had was with a more expensive model that the inverter in it died. Un fortunately replacement inverters for generators are not econonomical to replace in any generator. The only way you will know if it will start your aircon is to try it. One trick for difficult to start aircons, is get the fan running first then get the compressor going.

The *only* way to be sure if a particular generator will power a particular air conditioner is to test it. Forget the numbers and specifications they are woefully inadequate to make a rational engineering judgement from.

I will be surprised if your generator has a genuine Yamaha engine in it. Gensafe is one of many cheap Chinese generators and receives varied on-line reviews from "good" to "terrible". You may wish to read a post on generators I made to this forum around three to six months past.

I suggest you try the Gensafe with your A/C and if it fails then consider a Honda or Yamaha 2kW unit each of which will lighten your wallet by close to $2k but should start your AC. With regard to the 2kW Yamaha get a written guarantee from the seller that it will run your AC before purchase, the engine used is a bit small for my liking.

As for spares; with the Chinese gens, on the whole, forget it - you may be lucky enough to find something on E-bay but I would not bet on it.

Let us know how you go please.

There are plenty of "rarely used"  Honda/Yamaha Gen Sets for sale on MarketPlace , Gumtree and EBay  - I purchased my 2Kva and 3Kva Hondas on Gumtree both in excellent condition (2Kva  brand new in box 40% less than Retail Price and 3Kva  used but beautiful condition 40% less)  Both operate faultlessly.  Just because something is not "new" does not mean that it has to be "no good" - there are bargains to be had...and generally the "risk" is minor when dealing with quality products ....   KB

Have you thought about installing a "softstart" module if you can't start it from the generator due to high start current.
