Victron 350va Inverter

I have a Victron Inverter in the the first instance I am pea brained idiot, for some unbeknown reason I connected the battery leads incorrectly hence I have smoked it.

Is it repairable and or worth getting fixed ?

I will now go stand in the corner for 15 minutes with a dunces hat on.

Don't beat up on yourself, it's very easy to do.

It's probably not worth repairing given the price of new ones which you should be able to haggle down by at least 10%.

Victrron inverters

Maybe try to find a hobbyist who is prepared to try repairing it? It may be as simple as an internal fuse and/or a protection diode...?

 Hi Mate smile

Yes we all did something like that at some point. I will not go into details about drilling into an expensive device on the other side of the MH wall furious

Moving on, I have no direct experience but as Mike says it will probably have a sacrificial item that would be destroyed by doing this. A bit like a fuse really. If you can get someone familiar with electronics to look in there it will most likely be obvious. Worth a try but paying someone professionally might cost as much as a new one. My electronics mate at work fixed my problem above for me and worked out the burnt parts required.   hmm

Getting the smoke back into the box is an extremely time consuming task. It would be cheaper to buy a new one.

Assuming that you don't expect to pursue a warranty claim, can you show us a photo of the innards? I would be very surprised if there were no protection device, even though in this case it appears not to have worked, at least not non-destructively.

 Hi

My Victron inverter manual says something like there is a non serviceable fuse that will be blown if the wires are not connected correctly.

PROBLEM. not working (led OFF) (last suggestion)

Blown inverter fuse. ------- the inverter has to be returned for service

Hmm great rip off under the guise of safety I guess.  hmm I would look in there.

I've blown up my beaut Fluke multi meter twice.

The first time I changed current scales while it was connected in cct.  This time I tapped it across a spark plug .. just like we used to do with moving coil meters.   I've only had it for about 25 years!

My hobbyist mate fixed it the first time but I'm too embarrassed to go back to him a second time.

Will just go to JCar for a cheapie replacement.

Perhaps consider one of these:

Clamp meter

The clamp function is very useful.
