Electronic anti sway units

Hi all

I have had 16.6" caravans, single axle  for about 28 years and now upgrading to a 19.6" dual axle caravan full onsuite and solar panels etc.

I am looking for comments on the two electronic anti sway  units available, Alco and  Dexter from people who have used these units.

All comments welcome.

Thanks

Ray Saunders

I have used both; The ALKO one caused a lot of problems, actuating tuning left around corners, had to be disconnected to reverse park, had to be disconnected to travel on gravel roads - ALKO Technicians unable to rectify faults.
Have Dexter unit currently, great unit no need to disconnect to travel on gravel or reverse park.

Chalk and cheese units - I believe ALKO purchased the rights to Dexter in order to remedy faults in their unit - Having dealt with ALKO for service I would never again buy their product, even if it is a re-badged Dexter.

Welcome to the gang Ray, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Sorry, I can't help with your question but for what it's worth,

I have a 20' 2.7t aluminium teepee that tows exceptionally well without ASU but only tow no more that 90kmh at most. I am fully aware of sway so have my whits about me at all times. I am not saying nothing will happen because you just never know. So far so good for me.

Keep Safe out there.

Thanks for your response. I have just talked to an independent  caravan sales and repair yard and they are authorised to fit both. However have been  informed most people are now fitting Dexter.

  • Thanks Chief One Feather, I also only tow at 90km but with a 1.5 t van. Not sure about the extra weight - maybe I should give it a go without one.
