Hi Just been reading all the comments on waiting time for a new built caravan.
In my case I put down a deposit in November 9th 2020 . Was told ready by June 2021. Delta virus hit I rang about that time and was told late November 2021 or early December due to all the lockdowns ,strikes, no one working and lack of parts/supply. I have just rang them today and was now told it will be now January2022
Is anyone in the same position or can anyone tell me what's going on out their in the caravan world.
All my friends are pressuring to do something.
Im so close now but Im getting frustrated .

I received a email from the sale man in January stating could be ready April 2022
My new Caravan has still not arrived.
This week { first week in April 2022}I spoke to both the sale men and the saw the caravan manufacturer [a small manufacturer ] who stated that caravan will be some time in June 2022.
That will make about 19 month wait.
I was wondering is this a record for waiting time or can someone beat this time.

Know a few who have gone the other way and refurbed old faithful !! With a few custom mods ., win - win !! The rush to get new vans out ?? Leaves some worries over quality control !
Jesus, I would want my money back. This is a little thing but I waited 9 mths for a set of Thule roof racks to come from Europe, by the time they came, they gave them to me for half price. I would expect at least a price reduction waiting that long. But I am thinking this company of yours maybe going out of business, and if not, will likely have a higher price for you to pay. Chances are even if you cancel, you wont be getting your deposit back. It is also likely that they will have a new date for you come June, just hoping you will give up and forget about it and the deposit. I think they are having a lend of you. Regardless of almost 2 years waiting, I suspect they wont be giving you a van.
Drove past a nearby Jayco Dealer a few days back, their yard was full of new stock ready to be towed away.
Same situation at another local caravan manufacturer a few kms away (different brand).
If I wanted a new caravan, I just go & buy one right away.
Bugger putting down large deposits & waiting for a ages.
Life's too short.

Good luck with that. Ive just been to Sydney Caravan Show and as a test I spoke with maybe 10 caravan sellers, including Jayco and not one said immediate delivery.
I have twice been offered the chance to cancell my order and recieve a full refund of my $5k deposit due to delays.
I did build in a bit of a buffer for my deadline, just as well as it will be 16 months from the order date to when i am expected to take delivery.
All the caravans in yards are customer orders i believe, as stated i also went to the Sydney show and asked a few dealers about delays, because i was seriously thinking of ordering something else.
I can make a 15k profit on mine straight off the dealers driveway, but they tell me the manufacturers 2 year warranty only aplies to the original purchaser of the caravan and is not transferable?
I would like to see that tested in a courtroom.
I will just have to cop it and wait it out.
Funny thing is, the new tow vehicle being built in Turin has been made bang on the expected date of production as stated in my contract signed 10 months ago.
Italy can build on schedule, even with the covid issues, but Australian caravan manufacturers are struggling.
I think we are relying too much on Chinese content in our caravans.

It might look like they've got stock you can just buy, but over here, those vans in the yard are just for display and you have to order and then wait to get. I looked and was given a delivery estimate of February next year. I think shakey55 is right about having to wait for any new van. The only way to get something right now, today, is to buy secondhand and be lucky enough to grab it before somebody else. Very high demand and low supply at the moment.

I'm not interested in buying one.
Just an observation that their yard was chocka block full of new caravans.
The other local dealer that I mentioned has new caravans in stock ready for immediate delivery.
I bought a caravan 12 years ago, its the only one that I'm ever going to own.
We paid a $17K deposit on ours in April last year and were expecting delivery in November, all was on time until September when I asked could I push it back a few months because I was heading abroad on a short term work contract. A week later Omicron hit and I decided that I wasnt going anywhere so I asked the dealer to put us back on the schedule. They said ok but now it wouldn't be until April as they had given our slot to someone else. A couple of weeks ago they rang and told us that the manufacturer in Melbourne was having difficulty getting chassis built so all vans had to be pushed back 2 months. There is a website for owners of the brand where the dealer will post a video tour of each new van with an introduction to the new owner when they are handed over - this has gone from around 3 a week to 1 or 2 so there is definately a slow down on production. Newcastle Jayco had a couple of Swan and Penguin Camper trailers available for immediate delivery last week but nothing else - I know that because my son went up there looking for one. Some dealers like ours have new vans on their lot but they told us that they wont sell them because they need to keep them for display.

I waited six months - Sept 2020 till March 2021 - for an Australian built camper trailer.
Manufacturer is currently quoting one year delivery, even though they've taken on a lot of extra staff (which seems to have resulted in a downturn in quality - but that's another story).
However, I've noticed a lot of nearly new 'only used a couple of times' campers of the same brand being advertised for sale by owners very recently. I'm guessing they turned to camping during covid but realised it wasn't for them and now the borders are open are offloading the barely used campers and heading back to Bali.
If I hadn't already bought mine, I think between now and the end of this year would be a good time to buy nearly new instead of waiting a year for one to be made.

As Aus-Kiwi mentioned I went on the Covid renovation bandwagon. I couldn't see my way to spending 100k to replace our 2005 Boroma bought for 34k in 2018. Sat TV, diesel heater, smart 24inch 12v TV. New shocks, DO35 hitch, 400ah lithium, all victron controllers renogy 3000w inverter, new interior led lights and new paint and decals. Dragged into 2022. Almost done and very happy with result.

$17k deposit sounds a bit high unless there was a specific reason.
Yes it is high Montie its actually 20% of the purchase price, the Retreat we bought in 2016 was only 10%. The difference is that this one its basically being custom built to an order. With the Retreat we got to choose all the normal things like colours, bench tops handles etc. & we could add on options but people who bought that particular model got pretty much the same layout.
I believe that the dealer probably thinks they are more at risk with a customised van order if people pull out as they could have a problem trying to sell them for the full amount. I know of 1 guy at this dealership who 2 weeks before the delivery split with his wife and wanted his deposit back, they told him that when his van arrived they would put it on the lot and sell it. If they had to reduce the price they would take the difference out of his deposit, apparently they were able to get the full amount and everyone walked away happy.

Yes, I can understand higher deposits for custom builds as there is a much higher risk for the dealer.
We ordered our caravan in May 2021 and are still waiting.... 21 months to date!! .... and we have been told it will still be a few more months. To say we are angry and frustrated is an understatement !!
We keep getting one excuse after another.
We understand there has been delays due to Covid and shortage of parts, appliances etc but all of those reasons are wearing thin.
This is our first caravan and we thought we'd be grey nomads by now enjoying our retirement....
Read back to my comment, I hope all of you haven't been screwed, But I feel some of you have. Get your money back, go for a decent used one, they are out there.
Traveling through Gippsland last week I called into a large regional town caravan dealer to buy some toilet chemical.
I commented on how many new caravans they had in their yard, they said pick whichever one you like.

X2. Time to move on Gaga Yaya. Imagine what they will do to you if you dare to have a warranty claim. First owners are the suckers.
You become wise after that. Used ones are fine. In some instances they may be a better choice as all the problems (warranty claims)
