Dometic 8300/8700 Awning repair

Hi everyone,

My 8300 awning has a bent roller and needs to be replaced. I was told that the 8300 is no longer made and I will need an 8700 installed.

The repair company is saying that an 8700 roller will not fit an 8300 frame and I need the whole thing replaced.

a conversation with a mate who is a supplier of trailer and caravan parts tells me the 8700 roller will fit the 8300 frame.

is there anyone around who has done this so I can have that conversation with the repairer?

Appreciate any valuable experiences.

regards

Frank

I have it in mind, and I know not from where so I may be completely wrong, that there is a legal obligation on Australian companies to supply spare parts for their products for 10 years - you may wish to check that out and if correct get back to Dometic?

Try this mob mate. The Dometic replacement quality is not as good as original. I found that out last year when I replaced mine.

I have no idea what the roller looks like, but assuming it is a hollow aluminium extrusion it will be 6060 alloy T5 temper.

If you make up a block to the diameter of the tube for the pivot point, & just a simple block at one end. You should be able to pull the other end if you can lever it far enough.

Or take the tube to a metal engineering/welding/fabricator shop (steel or aluminium) & get them to put it through some rollers. The have plenty of different diameter dies for rolling tube to any radius, within reason.

Thanks Yobarr

I have asked Dometic the question to see what the response is.

Your info is reassuring
