Truma HWS

Our 2013 Coromal Element 6.32 has a Truma HWS fitted - we've had the van since new and have not had any real issues however recently we di a couple of farm sits and found the HWS did not operate on 240V. It works very well on gas.

The Truma site doesn't give very useful advice on checking the unit.

The unit is fitted in a very difficult to access area alongside the bed. I'm a sparky and have looked to see if there is any sort of reset etc. I wonder if its possible to gain any sort of access to the element through the vent on the outside of the van.

I've recently had a knee replacement and am not capable of getting down and into the tight spaces however access through the vent could be possible.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Mick,

Try doing a search on UTube.

I put Truma into their search magnifying glass and this came up.

I changed the 240 volt heating element, on my B14 Truma hot water heater

I can confirm that there is no 240 volt trip/reset switch, around the boiler unit
I am able to see mine from the top, but not from the element side

Mine was hard wired, and after I changed it, I had an electrician, fit a 240 volt power socket, as the new element comes with a plug attached

I can confirm that you will not be able to access the heating element from the outside vent area

Looking from above the boiler, if you can imagine the outside vent, at the 12 o'clock position, then the element is at the 8 o'clock position

Also, I am led to believe that the outside vent, is glued to the outside wall, while the inside of the outside vent, is glued to the inner wall
I assume that this is to stop any fumes getting inside the RV

I found that mine was not working, as it tripped the main 240 volt switch, as soon as I tried to use it on 240 volt

Hope that this info is useful to you

Your 240v element has burnt out. I have spoken with Truma and they strongly advise to NOT run the system on 240v 24/7. They are for RV use only and always turn off at night or not being constantly in use.
Elements range from $280-$350+. Depends where you buy. As far as the removal.depends where the unit is situated and the access to same.

The price of the Element is a rip off as a similar normal domestic element is about a quarter of the price - only difference is the TRUMA element has a slight bend in it.     KB

We have only lost our 240V HWS once. The mains plug fell out of the socket hidden in a cupboard.

Siebel Eltron make a 10L & 15L tank. Maybe an option to replace the Truman HWS.

I think Mike would want a system that also works on gas
