Flat towing behind 1998 Swagman with Isuzu 4.6 turbo

Hi all fellow travellers, myself and my patient wife and our beautiful 1998 Swagman 25 ft are looking to flat tow a small 4wd, Sierra or Vitara preferrably and i was  wondering if towing 1700 + kg extra will affect our speed or hill climbing expedentially? Engine is 4.6 Turbo isuzu

Thank You

Andrew and Elke biggrin

PS if anyone knows of a setup tow vehicle for sale, please let us know!

Not much response to your enquiry. Maybe a Van Sales site or even the Grey Nomads News classifieds. It should come in your email inbox.

Hi Beaversmile

We had an Isuzu MH previously with the same motor. I believe it will handle that extra weight OK. The previous owner had horses and towed them around OK, and the next owner wanted to do the same.

Gees I am not sure what you expect but when you are towing you drive accordingly. Just like a ute and caravan you do not expect to go the same as a Ferrari. I believe that is often the problem with people who have little experience they expect it is just like driving a car. Drive to your conditions and experience.

We have been towing grand vitara's around since 2007. We have a Winabago explorer with a 6.5 l turbo diesel and have determined it makes no difference to fuel consumtion or hills.

Not a proper comparison to your rig but with a diesel having it work a bit is not a problem. Iff slower up hill then just be aware ofwhat is behind a d letgo by when practical. I always call up trucks and advise when they wish to overtake i will back offto let them go. Let the truchie make the  decision

The 6.5 Detroit is no torque monster .. yes still get reasonable good fuel consumption! Still up to the driving style !
