creaking bed

we have made our bed in our Jayco built crafter into two singles problem is when hubby moves the bed is so noisy I can't sleep.

It is creaking at the hinges.

I was thinking maybe a piece of wood under the hinges might help with support.

Is there a gap under the hinges that would fit a piece of wood? If it's the hinges that are creaking then maybe a squirt with some lubricant would help. Otherwise, I'd be looking at how level the base is and considering filling any gaps with floor protector material. You can get felt, or rubber or all sorts. If you get felt you can get rolls and cut it to suit. A strip on the opposite side to the hinges might be the fix. It's hard to suggest anything without knowing how the beds are put together.

Can't you move instead of him... sorry! wink

You either have to bolt, screw, anchor & often glue as well so there is no movement.

Dissimilar materials, for example wood & metal, generally don't squeak. Look very carefully at the entire structure.

The roof rails for our roof rack cross bars, the brackets & extrusion squeaked. I got some 1mm high density PTFE & jammed it between the similar metals. Squeaking solved.

Hi my  thoughts are that creaking is caused by the timber in the frame moving against another piece of timber, possibly near the hinge support. Possibly you could stiffen it up with an additional piece of timber under there but really guessing from here. The woodwork is a bit flimsy often and could do with some help. A bit of hot wax from a candle may help with just the creaking between two bits of timber.

 Dissimilar materials will not squeak.

Similar materials need lubrication of some sort or fastened together with a firm grip in as many positions as possible.

Some beds they creak while sleeping.
Some beds they creak at rest.
The bed that creaks with pleasure is the bed that I like best. biggrin

Apologies to AC/DC.

Maybe some temples carved in stone for permanent history can help!
