Satellite usage

When travelling in a caravan from state to state, do you need to re-register your new location?

In order to get local TV stations you need to call them and tell them where you are. This can be done online too, I believe? If you don't change you can get only programmes from the state you just left. Cheers

Hi Roy. What you say is true, but to get LOCAL TV in NSW, for example, you must call vast to advise that you've left Queensland. Time difference is a factor when going, say, from Queensland to WA. There are other complications, which I won't go in to, but changing state to state is simple. Cheers

I too travel with a Vast set up for the caravan for over 10 years now . We live in Tasmania and have traveled this year to SA and currently in Vic. The only time i have ever contacted Vast is for the 6 month renewal. We used to live in Victoria and made the move over to Tasmania ( nearly 6 years so far ) and have never had a problem with the Vast service.

The VAST satellite (at least the one I have) has to be renewed every six months

I just leave mine on West Australia setting, it just means that the news etc, is at Western Australia time

If I wish to see the news etc at local time, then I will have to change the settings, to whatever State or territory, I am in

Although we have not actually used the VAST satellite, for a few years now. I try to renew it before every long trip
Just in case her who says so, says put the TV on

When I say that I try to renew it, you can not renew until one month before it expires
It is easier to renew at home base, than to set it up on the road, and wait for the renewal/downloads etc, to come through

Hope that this info is useful to someone, in the future

I have renewed ours every 6 months without being at home. Takes a few seconds online & get an email confirmation almost straight away. Just need first & last name of who the card is registered with & the smartcard number. Never bothered to change states, but we generally just watch ABC & SBS & can get our home state ABC when we want to for news etc. Just a matter of changing channel, so not really sure why they ask you to stipulate a state when initially registering to be honest.  I don't even recall which state we chose when setting it up years ago as it really makes no difference.

For services which haven't been used in a while, a 'Rehit' is sometimes needed. Again easy to do, but needs the sat dish to be hooked up & ready. One place we were looking after had a an old receiver, & satdish on the roof, hadn't been used for several years. Owner told us it was in their name, & I got the number off the card. Set it up & did a rehit. All was working in less than 30 minutes.

 Thats very true, Cuppa

Using the "Rehit" on their website does give the signal in a much shorter time

But

Then you have to wait for all the updates to come through, as for a few years now, I only set it up, to renew it, so normally have to wait for the updates to come through

I read somewhere (don't quote me chapter and verse, as I am going from memory), that VAST want you to leave the system on all the time, as it simplifies updates etc

Getting back to the Original Poster, I have found that you do not have to change over to every State or Territory, if you do not wish to do so
