200 LC fails weight measurement


Hi

I wasn't looking for this but when I saw it in the side panel I was intrigued and watched it.

Just saw a very similar rig pulling into servo, but they had a covered tinny plus a trailer on the roof rack as well.

 Thanks Dennis, for posting this comprehensive weighing exercise which simply confirms what I have been saying on this forum,for some years now.
An LC200 cannot safely tow much more than 3000kg as a PIG trailer. (Caravan) Talk of  Safely towing 3500Kg is LaLa Land stuff.

 BIG problem, but not addressed in the video, is the pathetically low 1950Kg rear axle carrying capacity of this car.

The almost universal response from delusional LC200 owners is "Ah, we will get a GVM upgrade", but this is almost a total waste of time and money if you are towing because the rear axle capacity goes up to 2000kg. Thousands ($0000s) to gain a miserable 50kg. You gotta be joking.

And, once again can I point out, we are overloaded with a 3000Kg van and only 301Kg towball weight. Cheers

No, the one I saw had a black van, large(ish) 23 foot?, the tinny was upright on a trailer then on the roof rack. Tinny was tarped as well, so presumably? gear inside it, North Albury servo.

Hi Craig. These are signs that the driver was either brain-dead or simply didn't give a toss.    

Either way that setup should quickly have gained the attention of enforcement officers, and been weighed.

When they're found to be overweight let them choose which items they wish to unload, with these items then being seized to be sold at public auction.

 Not only would the resultant revenue help to slightly offset the costs of enforcement, but word quickly would spread, encouraging others to be more responsible with their loading.

The indignant and the 'poor me' brigade soon would learn that it is irresponsible to play with the lives of other road users, not to mention the lives of their own family members.

Weights are a complex issue, understood by few who are not helped by some 'professionals' who offer to weigh cars and vans for a fee, maybe $300.

Several times I have seen these chaps in action, and much of the information given in their written reports is correct, but possibly in order to keep customers happy, they invariably ignore the BIGGEST problem with tow vehicles, which is the car's over loaded rear axle .

Indeed, one such "expert" assured a Ram 1500 driver that this car could cope with 400kg towball weight. LaLa Land stuff, but unfortunately these people rely on the fact that, for many caravanners, ignorance is bliss.

Some time ago I told of a couple in a Ram 1500, towing a grossly overloaded caravan, that I spoke with at a free camp in the Goldfields. After I checked compliance plates etc, and explained the figures, showing them that they were grossly overloaded, they were most appreciative of my advice, with one saying to the other "I knew we should have bought that Ram 2500".

Next day they turned back to Perth to get rid of the entirely unsuitable Ram 1500, and to buy a Ram 2500. Cheers
