My Ranger and Van


Ranger and Van weighed before the start of the trip

 Specs GVM 2956 GCM 5500

VAN GTM 2466 ATM 2670

 

 

Ranger weighs 2490 kg loaded which includes 2 pax, 250kg ball weight, van weighs 2460kg actual GCM 4950, unfortunately didnt  have time to do any axle weights, as the ute was weighed the day before and weighed 2240kg the next on the way out the combination weighed 4950 GTM and TBW are estimates.

That being the maths, I am 10kg under the GTM and 550 kg under the GCM.

If the rubbish tips weighbridge  is off by + or - 50 kg, I have plenty of weight available to move more items to the ute.

Advantage is on my side with no bull bars, side steps, draws, canopies etc, most vehicles with that feel good stuff are behind the eight ball.

Drive  front axle of car onto weighbridge. Record weight.

Drive whole car onto weighbridge. Record weight. 

Deduct front axle weight from total to get rear axke weight.

Drive car and van onto weighbridge. Record weight.

Deduct car weight from total to get van's axle weight.

Easy stuff, but your setup looks OK except for the the car being only marginally heavier than the van.

Don't have figures on me, but I think that the rear axle carrying capacity is 1850kg, so everything looks OK.

As you suggest it probably would be wise to move a bit of weight to the front of the car's tray.

P.S In January there was an unfortunate accident near Mt Barker, involving this caravan and a Roadtrain. 
As can be seen, the caravan came second, but the Roadtrain was severely damaged as well.

However the Roadtrain owner-driver still is recovering from his injuries, and cannot drive, so he has lost his income.

I'm not going to go into detail, but if this car and van had been set up correctly it is unlikely that the accident would have occurred.

More attention should be paid to weights, by more people. Simple stuff.

 Not doable as thet approach and departure slope downwards from the end of the weighbridge plate.

 Can be done Graham with more accuracy than the 20kg increments on the weighbridge allow.

Drive front of car so rear wheels are JUST off the weighbridge. Take weight.

Drive forward so wheels of van are JUST off the weighbridge. Take weight.

Drive car forward so van wheels are on weighbridge, along with all wheels of car.

The ONLY slightly inaccurate weight will be a small variation on the car's rear axle weight caused by the drawbar of the caravan pulling  'downhill' on the towball. 

As I've said, the difference would be minimal, and not worth worrying about, given the weighbridge's 20kg increments.

It's not as if you seem to have anything to hide.
