Hello. Just wondering if the C612 (Bonang Road) is suitable for towing caravans. My partner is experienced with mountain towing (Brown, Talbingo, Hotham, Sue City), but this sounds like it might be longer, steeper, windier? Narrow roads with logging trucks and no guardrails freaks me out a bit. Thanks in advance.
I have only driven it once, in a 7 metre Nissan Civilian. It was with great relief that we finally arrived in Orbost. Probably the longest, tight & twisty road I've ever driven on. It was hard work & tiring. I wouldn't choose to tow a caravan on it. The B23 from Bombala down to Cann River & on to Orbost is far easier & quicker.
Agree with Cuppa about the B23 - Monaro Highway - being the better road. After the Clyde and Brown mountains going down to the coast the Monaro is a bit of an anti-climax.
The road is almost straight with a very slight descent. The slope is so slight that on the return trip up the only way that you know you are on a rise is that the engine is working a little bit harder than on a flat and level road.
Thank you Cuppa and Long Weekend, I greatly appreciate you taking the time out to reply. We'll now be giving the Bonang Road a wide berth. That leg will be at the beginning of an eight week trip, so there's no need for a stressful, tiring start. Thanks again.
We often go to Delegate,a nice little park to unwind.
We travel up from Bairnsdale,we always go up the Monaro and back.Took a trip up from Orbost to Delegate without the van to see
if it was quicker.
The road is mainly sealed except for 3 or 4 spots, and has been said, winding and tiring.
Delegate is well worth a look,It is on the Bundian Way,a meeting place where aboriginals in the East Gippsland region went from Eden to Mt Kosciusko for the Bogong moths.
A good book to get from the library is "the Bundian Way" by John Blay, a 360 Klm journey
Thanks Plain Truth for your input. We live near Merimbula and are quite familiar with the Bundian Way, and I also bought the book for my hubby. We will be staying in Delegate as in the past weve only done a day trip up there. There's a lovely platypus reserve there too. We will be taking the easy highway route. No need to be getting stressed and tired.
