Breakaway 600

Greetiings all,

It was working fine last time we travelled.  It was fine when parked up at home then last night I got up to check the perimeter and noticed a light coming from the back of the van.  Lo and behold, the brake lights where on. I have no idea how long it had been like that.  Today I checked the front panel of the control box and saw that the Low power light was on and that the indicator Led on the front of the van was also illuminated.  When I pressed the test button the low light went out and the normal light came on. Baffling. I removed the fuze to the brake lights from the Breakaway control box and they went out (as in brakes and all other lights on control box).  Im not sure where to start looking.  Anyone experienced something similar?

Thanks

Adrian

Has the breakaway cable been pulled?

Adrian, note brakes are actuated for 15/20 minutes after pin pulled from unit and put back in.

Brakes are only actuated while the pin is out.

ALKO Breakaway brakes will not release until the sender unit has timed out. ALKO ESC had many faults this was one of them and the reasoning to purchase "Dexter"

I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) from the post title that he has a Breaksafe 600(0) which would only apply the brakes while the pin is out and has battery charge remaining.

I have attached the installation and operators leaflets in case you don't have copies.

After all this time, if the lights are on and the battery is not flat, I suggest your unit is faulty. Sounds like the stop lights are on, but the brakes are not applied. If the brakes have been applied, then I suggest your battery would be buggered by now. As a confidence check that the switch circuit is not faulty, disconnect one of its orange wires from the control box.

(as an aside, the old voyager brake controllers would do a similar trick. some models of it had an intermittent fault that illuminated the stop lights but did not apply the trailer brakes.)
