Hi JMJ one option that I use, is to go to Ken Tame insurance. But you have to join the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (ALL RV TYPES WELCOME), to be eligible as they set up the insurance deal for RVs.
Some people use other insurance companys. Search the forum. Jaahn.
I use Ken Tame. Not the least cost but competitive with a lot of useful inclusions. One I had to use was when motor home was at mechanics and they damaged it to be undrinkable then required me to get 3 quotes before the would repair. Ken Tame took over covered repairs, $180,000 worth and sued mechanics.
Most insurance will not cover claims when in care of mechanics.
Jack, I don't know the value of your motorhome or if you'd qualify for Apia insurance but, when I bought my new motorhome I checked insurance cost with RACQ, Ken Tame, CIL and Apia. RACQ was the dearest by far with CIL and Ken Tame quotes being similar to each other and way lower than RACQ. My quote from Apia was 65% of that from KT & CIL. I went with Apia and on doing so, got a further discount. I don't know anything about the reputation of these insurers regarding payouts and action in the event of a claim and I hope I never have to find out.
There's a few companies that have "Lay Up" discounts - that is selected months that
the rig is not on the road but is still covered at the nominated address.
Also, one that i know of has kilometer selections rather than unlimited mileage coverage.
Another observation: I was once a member of CMCA and in spite of what they say they
raise their noses at van owners. And they are schitzophrenic about things like special
greywater catchment containers with alarms and so-on.
I was turned away from their near empty park in Ingham because my lidded grey water
catchment was not suitable.
Read the name. It is a campervan and motorhome club not a caravan club. Don't like it? There are a dozen or more caravan clubs you could join. Your choice. Cheers, Peter

I have a van and I am insured with KT. They do insure vans, not just campervans and motorhomes. I didn't have to join the CMCA, but I opted to (as an associate member) because the 5% discount for members paid for the membership.
I switched to KT from CIL when the premium jumped by 63% after a 10% increase the previous year, for no apparent reason.
We have a Long wheel base high roof Mercedes Benz Sprinter Campervan, that we have attended CMCA rallies along with up to 1000 other RV's. We have also attended with our Cruiser and 21'6" Caravan have had no issues with other members. We also have taken the caravan on monthly CMCA Chapter outings.
There are other benefits insuring wit KT and joining the CMCA. The club also runs Members Stop Overs, where you can overnight in a members backyard/farm/paddock etc.
CIL is another organisation that may offer comparable cover.

Peter - I think you are wrong. They are CCMCA and actively seek vans as well as the traditional.
Caravan Camping and Motorhome Club Australia.
I take it from your ascetic reply that you are a member?
I had all this from them 10 years ago when there was a lengthy discussion about their new name.
I doubt that they have changed it back.

i just purchased a motorhome and KT was the dearest I have seen and ended up with CIL saved over 1K.
Also, KT wanted $6000.00 excess for water damage.
Also, I found if your over $250K for the Motorhome nobody else will insure you to so you have to take what you can get, CIL have always been good to deal with.

The 2 motor home insurances that I know of are CIL and KT insurance. Do not get confused or believe what you think you see. KT is a company using the old Ken Tame inference. KT is not Ken Tame.
Hollard is also the KT underwriter.
We insured with Club 4x4 for one year. I did not like some of the fine print, so did not renew with them.
Cheers,
Peter
I have found KT competitive but also have additional benefits that can be important if you need them. One we used was while motor home was in workshop it was damaged, $180,000 worth. Most insurance companies will not cover if you agreed for the workshop to have vehicle, usually up to yourself to take action against workshop. KT repair motoror home and seek damages from workshop.
They are under the same business group umbrella as Club 4x4 & both use Hollard underwriters.
After being with Club 4x4 since they began I was disappointed when they would not insure our 4x4 motorhome, because they have an arrangement with what they described as their 'sister company' - KT Insurance. This was disappointing as it has meant we are no longer able to get the remote area recovery cover that Club 4x4 offer to their customers.
I sought a quote from KT less than a week ago. Their quote was a few hundred dollars more than our renewal offer from CIL, KT's basic excess was higher & they required us to have a gps tracker hard wired in, which CIL don't.
You no longer have to be a CMCA member to get insurance with KT, but they do give CMCA members a 5% discount. In our case it was still cheaper to stay with CIL.
