You say, "light storage for firewood". Firewood isn't that light really and looking at that pic, there is a bit of weight around effecting the back of the tow vehicle anyway. I'd be very careful and concerned it will be the straw that breaks the camel's back situation.

Make a tray of expanda-metal flooring and fit in A Frame under the bottles - note you will need to cover any loose objects including firewood with mesh or similar to prevent any spillage, Failure to secure (in NSW) will cause a severe fine and loss of demerits if observed by Highway Police.
Note it also illegal to carry firewood over most State Borders and some protected farming districts.
