Newbies here - Oz Star Vans

Hi everyone

Chez and Pete here from Hadspen, Tasmania and thanks for the add to the group.

We are not quite ready to start our adventures but considering upgrading to a more comfortable van in the meantime (we currently have a Jayco Hawk Outback, upgraded with a JackaJay easy lift system, diesel heater etc.)  Our big question is/has anyone purchased and travelled in a 15ft Couples Oz Star van. This seems to meet our requirements on paper but nothing like a bit of good honest feedback from an owner so if you have seen one, own one, travelled in one let us know your thoughts.

Welcome to the Forum Chez & Pete.

I am unfamiliar with the van you mention, check out on Lemon Caravans and RV's website - there is a list if vans to avoid.

Trouble with Lemon caravans is that they now list pretty much every manufacturer in Australia. There are some very dodgy builders around without doubt, but every manufacturer will have some issues somewhere with their product, and without proper investigation it is very hard to determine off a list like Lemon Caravans whether a complaint is justified, is just a one off from a large cross section from that manufacturer, the manufacturer is to be avoided at all costs or it is a purely vexatious complaint. Caravans are a low volume product pretty much hand built and should be approached that way. They will not be or never will be 100% perfect. Car manufacturers struggle to get it right 100% of the time, but some people would complain no matter how good they are. However, what one should look for is a general litany of complaints. If this is the case then you should probably give that brand a miss.

Thank you, Greg, agree with your thoughts and we are trying to keep an open mind. We are short on dealerships, limited brands etc in Tas, and it does make it hard to make comparisons. Adding in that stretch of water 'Bass Strait' makes it a much more complicated so if we do choose to purchase interstate we do need to have a short list for viewings.
